Linux@lemmy.ml•Finally done with the distro-hop: My return to Fedora
4·1 month agoYou’re mostly right, but I disagree about the bit about paid software and vetted developers. Open source like Linux is also mostly developed by programmers hired by companies, so there’s no difference there. Proprietary software has also had problems with malicious developers and there’s less transparency there.
Desktop Linux so far was meant to be a fun general purpose computing experience for geeks. Throwing extra security layers on it evidently spoils some of that fun, you can see how Linux nerds react to things like Polkit, SELinux, Wayland or Flatpak. But PCs in general suck at security, they’re based on legacy tech from an era when cybersecurity wasn’t even a concept.
Huh, I’ve been following “This Week in GNOME”, didn’t realise KDE is doing the same thing. Thanks for sharing, I’m gonna follow both, it’s nice to see progress in Linux desktop, even if it’s not my personal choice of software.
Looks like a tiny lioness :O

111·1 month agoI got a WD Red from Amazon (Marketplace) that looked exactly like a legit one, though kinda scratched up. I was only able to tell because I tried running a SMART test and it didn’t even fail, it just didn’t work. I got suspicious, so I tried to register the product on Western Digital website and it lacked the necessary code on the label. I then contacted WD and confirmed it was fake, thankfully I could return it and get money back.
I’ve been 9 years on E and if anything I think I got stronger, because I feel more in touch with my body. I guess this just works different for everyone ._.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits Windows 11 has a GDID tracker with no off switch, first documented publicly in an FBI hacker complaintEnglish
5·2 months agoNone of the articles I’ve read about this explains how the GDID gets mapped onto the user’s activity.
“Windows device carrying GDID g:6755467234350028 had visited the ngrok signup page”
So does it mean that Windows monitors your activity outwith just Microsoft services and sends all data to their servers? Is it maybe MS Edge history sync?

Because otherwise they’d be considerate of others and just wear a top, it’s not really hard, basic clothes in modern times are easy to come by for everyone. I think men should cover up as well; male chests are also commonly viewed sexually, people just don’t treat female or gay sexuality as seriously.
thrill seeker, mentally ill, hippy, or something else
You call men like that “perverts” or “sex pests”. Women can be those things too.
Would you say the same to breastfeeding parents?
No, that’s a situation where there’s a genuine reason to do it other than wanting to prove something or being a creep.
It is a violation of people’s sensibilities. People don’t wanna be exposed to nudity for personal or religious reasons. No need to expose yourself and violate that, no reason why one can’t just cover themselves up appropriately and avoid hurting others.

Any chance for an official flatpak? The current one on Flathub is outdated and requires lots of permissions because they couldn’t figure out xdg portals.
