  • Apologies if you’ve heard this before:

Something useful to remind yourself is that if you fail to do something you agreed to do, that’s you failing.

If your boss can’t find someone to do something they need done outside of normal hours, that’s them failing.

Likewise if you tell them you can’t get something done because you’re only one person, it’s their responsibility to fix that, not your responsibility to bridge the gap. If it was truly so important to get done, they would have more hands to get it done. Otherwise they’re just blowing smoke and it can wait a day/weekend/week/until you actually have time.

  • My guy, I’m a grown ass adult that does sysadmin work for a living in a full Windows/Microsoft environment. Just stop. You’re wrong about how Windows works.

Your meme is simply not how Windows works, unless you intentionally choose to disable the security feature of UAC while leaving Windows Defender on. At that point you’ve accepted the risk that you could do something to break your shit.

You turned off warnings for all the shit you say Windows sleeps through, but left Windows Defender on which keeps the exe warnings. The only way to get Windows to work the way in this meme is if you configure it in this non-standard way.

Your willingness to poke around with computers will serve you well, especially in the modern age as people are less willing to do that, but don’t assume you know everything just because you know more than the people around you day to day.

All of those things require admin rights, which is an explicit acceptance that you are now working with things that could fuck your shit up. Modern Windows, unless you disable UAC, asks you to confirm you’re sure you want to use admin rights before you have the opportunity to break any of the shit you claim it’s chill about.

Running an exe doesn’t require admin rights, hence the extra warnings. Plus a malicious exe could do all that shit without asking for admin first through a privilege escalation exploit.

I swear, people find more uninformed shit to complain about with Windows every day.

If all else fails, you can try using whatever the lastest community supported fork of Universal Android Debloater is. It uses ADB to remove bloatware, which bypasses vendor locks on keeping certain apps installed.

Obviously no real replacement for custom ROMs, but it’s better than nothing.

  • They could, or they might not. The biggest thing is that we already have been through 4 years of Trump. We have some idea of what that will look like, we aren’t going in completely blind.

As far as this “being the last election”, there’s too many safeguards in our governmental system and too many armed people (in both the civilian and military population) with deep vested interests to ensure real elections still happen for that to change.

There’s a hell of a lot of posturing and hot air going on and that has gone on from Trumps camp that has absolutely no true way to get force behind it.

Things will be bad, but panicking will just make it thay much harder to distinguish true threats and problems from what isn’t.

Think of it like this: Your car is stalled on a train track, and there’s a train coming a few minutes away. There’s also someone with a gun in your backseat about to shoot you. The train makes more noise, but the more immediate threat is the guy with the gun. Being more calm helps to discern those sorts of distinctions, and that the best solution would be to run from your car rather than try to pump the gas.

For every could, might, and may there’s a didn’t, might not, etc. You could start pissing blood tomorrow, but I assume you’re in good health that you probably won’t. But you still technically could.

The news media across the board is optimizing for ad views to support their existence with money. Keeping people stressed out increases viewership, so it’s in their best interests to put everything through a funhouse mirror and rely on technicalities and speculation to stoke emotional response. There’s been studies done and books published on this.

Bad times are not end times.

  • We had four years under Biden to find the skeletons from Trump’s last presidency. Please point me to them, as obviously I’ve missed something huge like roving squads of minority slayers or something.

It’s going to fucking suck. Yes, people will die as a result of horrible policies and the general sociopolitical climate, but people claiming that minorities are literally going to be hunted en mass are out of their gourd.

Too many armed civilians spread through all the population demographics for that to work to the level a lot of people are screaming about.

  • Panic doesn’t help anything. Neither does horror. We survived one Trump presidency, we’ll survive this one, despite it being monumentally worse.

Do what you can to help those you can around you. Work in and grow the support structures in your local community, family, and social circles.

Panic leads to stupid, rash, not well thought out decisions. It should be avoided as much as possible while you take a long, honest, realistic look at the situation and evaluate what is and isn’t in your power to effect.

You’re right that passive defeatism isn’t helpful, but you don’t have to go straight to the other extreme of emotional turmoil.

  • I did not ask you to or insinuate that you should kill yourself. Complete lie.

You stated multiple times that you wanted to shoot him because he used the excuse that “it’s just a game”. That’s a thin distinction at best.

You also use a separate account for your normal posting than your admin account, which feels needlessly sneaky.

Look, taking down the post was right call, and removing him from the mod position for arguing about it too. But the rest of this?

Telling someone that you want to injure them, then going on a multiple paragraph rant that is more about dunking on someone and venting than actually trying to inform isn’t a good look for an admin.

I can’t read their full responses that you deleted, but what you quoted from them reads like the kind of scared “stop yelling at me I don’t understand what I did wrong please don’t hit me” responses I gave to my mother while she was busy giving me reasons for therapy.

Normal users can get away with this sort of aggressive behavior because they don’t have a position of power, but you do. You are inherently setting the example of what you want from your users and it’s not a good look from the outside.

Now let’s see if this criticism gets me banned too… hope not.
