The people who develop lemmy get paid to do so, as stated by iirc Dessalines themselves.
I would put donating to those running instances at the highest priority, because without servers, we have nothing.
I was on reddit once, but now I’m not.
I’m also gk99@kbin.social and gk99@mastodon.world

Not sure why the cost of gas matters, either, when they have no problem blowing money on Biden gas pump stickers and creating drag on their car by attaching as many Trump and US flags as possible.
And they wonder why we think they’re lunatics.
Republicans and Americans
No, just the Republican Americans. The ones who say they’re Christian but completely ignore how often the Bible outright says to love those around us in favor of hatred because of some irrelevant thing that doesn’t affect them in the slightest, like race or sexuality.
The rest of us normal people are capable of acceptance of each other and desire for the greater good.
Sure, but we have a huge chunk of the country inhabited mostly by tumbleweeds and people with less-than-awesome education. Plus, the concept of Area 51 has been around so long and has been so prolific it’s been constantly referenced in the mainstream, from Scooby-Doo to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
Of all the things to be guilty of these days, that’s a pretty decent one.
They can also afford to just sell at a loss if they want, similar to how Wal-Mart briefly sold games at $50 new instead of $60 as an incentive for people to buy from them instead of competitors.
Probably a reason they have to come up with names like “libtards” while we can just say “conservatives” as an insult because it’s self-explanatory.
Bro I could say the same thing about global warming, vaccines, race, and abortions, but I’m still surrounded by people fighting progress. Vaping is no different.
Imagine you don’t like your neighbor so you build a wall between you and them so you can’t see each other or interact.
That’s defederation.
According to the article @moon_crush linked, she broke a popularity record previously held by The Beatles with them.
My old person trait is dislike of video-form social media. I consider blaring my phone speakers at max volume disrespectful to those in my surroundings and generally annoying.
Hence why my social media of choice was reddit and is now lemmy+kbin. It’s mostly text posts and images.
Dumb questions that could be easily answered with a search engine or AI are not my idea of ideal discussion and I don’t see a point to retaining it. “Noob questions” are fine, using a discussion board as a first resource for a basic question is not.
I don’t think so, reddit was so dominant that had they simply not decided to anger all their power users, we’d all still be on there like nothing had changed. A good platform has staying power, I’ve been on Steam for 16 years and I have no plans of bailing on it because it’s simply the best gaming platform I’ve ever used. It’s not game lock-in or anything, most of my games I could buy elsewhere or pirate, I just like having the features and all these other ones popping up like GOG Galaxy still aren’t overtaking it despite the good PR.
No, federation means we all see the same content regardless of which site we sign up on with the exception of sites that yours may block.
But be wary that lemmy.ml is a tankie instance and the “.ml” stands for Marxism-Leninism. I generally avoid lemmy.ml communities so I don’t get banned for saying “the uyghur genocide is a real thing” or anything.
Boost is so good I explicitly just made this account to use it in case kbin support isn’t planned. Can’t wait to pay for premium again and feel like nothing changed.
Considering this is a temporary measure, I imagine not. Lemmy.world has been under constant attacks as the #1 Lemmy instance and it’s not going to stop just because bots can’t get in automatically anymore.
