As the other comment says, it hardly matters. Fwiw I think they are well-intentioned but if their strategy is working for anyone, it’s working for the corporatist dem party.

They cannot and they will not. Please do not fall for them yanking the football away from you again. AOC and Bernie exist to give you hope and thereby capture your vote for a party that has no intention of ever fighting for the working class in a meaningful way. We need a real alternative but we’ve given away so much of our collective power (unions) that it’s hard to see a hopeful path forward. Organize with your neighbors and start building trusted communities that will fight together when needed.

I really appreciate your perspective on this stuff. I hadn’t considered how SWerz would be on the cutting edge of privacy/security tech and concerns. I completely understand the nerd factor of the fediverse in general, but I can’t help feeling like it is “the answer” to corporate controlled networks. Then again, I’m also aware of the inherent issue around “technical solutions to political problems”.

I don’t fault you for going where you gotta go, but I imagine that as bsky gains popularity, it will gain advertising, and it will start deplatforming accounts like yours. It is corporate social media after all. I’m not sure what a good alternative is though. In my early days on Mastodon, there was Switter, which seems like the right kind of model, but it collapsed for reasons I can’t recall.

Main mutual aid thing I’ve been part of is meal prep/distribution. Mostly people gravitated towards set roles they enjoyed: picking up food from stores/farms, preparing food, cleaning up, distributing food. We always made sure that everyone involved got food if they wanted it, whether hot meal or random groceries from the pickups. Also, we happily accepted donations of whatever people were willing to offer, even though it might only be a couple dollars from someone destitute. We’d use it to buy packaging/spices/supplies. There was a constant refrain of ‘solidarity, not charity’ and we would do what we could to embody it.

Fascism is capitalism in crisis. People are overwhelmingly disillusioned with the neoliberal status quo (for good reason). The problem is that neoliberalism always keeps the fascist monsters on the leash, while smothering anticapitalist movements entirely. In times of crisis like now, people look for an alternative to the same bullshit politics that got us here, and the only viable alternative is fascism. Lot’s of people want the liberal parties to be a real alternative, but they are wholly beholden to capital, and thus unable/unwilling to represent a more humane radicalism as an alternative.

Why the hell would you expect Harris to do a 180 on Israel once elected? Pure wishful thinking. If she won by toeing the party line, why would President Harris govern any differently? She could have gone maverick, knowing that there would be no time to replace her as the dem candidate, but the truth is she is perfectly happy with US policy towards Israel.

Do you have guns? Are you willing to protect your neighbors? Or will you just make smug memes about leopards eating Latino faces?
