The realistic hope I think is that Cuomo had support from extremely wealthy backers. New York Real Estate and Wall Street, Bloomberg, all backed Cuomo.

The people said no. The money didn’t swing it for Cuomo. The name recognition and the money didn’t swing it for Cuomo. The dynasties didn’t swing it for Cuomo.

Mamdani came in and offered real improvements to people’s lives and they gave him their votes.

They fought like the fight Trump. Sternly worded letters. Op eds. Speeches. Press conferences. Maybe a procedural vote or 2.

You must be really inspired by that energy.

Dems did the same thing to trump. This could go really well.

Anyone could have run vrs Biden. That asswipe from Michigan did. I looked into his politics and decided I would rather have Biden.

Small in number. Bernie came close both times, but 40% of the primary voters is like 2% of the population.

I would remind you that Clinton was legit popular with dem primary voters. She nearly won vrs Barak Obama, historically charismatic candidate.

The rules for primaries are clear. Anyone can run in them if they get the signatures.

If you don’t like the candidates that’s fine but Democrats individually decided not to run against Biden.

The party can’t stop them.

Middle age progressives have been pissed off since 2009 or so, when Congress scraped the public option from the ACA. We won a few victories (yay marriage equality) but the ghouls can lie, like they lied about keeping roe. So they will keep winning until they are met with honest people willing to change the system.

Socialism or lose.

If just my state left, and I could leave to another state, that would be pretty good. Two Republican senators gone, roughly 15 net house reps gone, and an influx of dem refugees like me into neighboring states.

Texas could legit try to make a go of it as an independent nation. It would be a disaster for my family though.

When I first saw the pic it was clearly blue/black. I laughed out loud when my wife asked me about the white/gold dress. I showed her my phone, and she agreed she could kinda see the blue black. She showed me hers, and I could kinda make out the white gold.

The device you view it on matters, and the lighting around you. For a while I could switch between them with concentration.

The majority of citizens are not “fine” with it, we are watching the results of the capture of every branch of government.

The template for this actually played out in Texas. Texas has a very weak governors office in terms of formal powers. Under George W Bush the Republican party systematically took control of each state office and coordinated their efforts to effect the agenda of Bush, Perry, and now Abbott.

They are doing the same thing at the federal level with project 2025 under Trump, they took the supreme court, and now they have removed the career civil servants that would refuse illegal orders from Trump.

If history of other dictatorships is any guide the powers of ICE will be expanded steadily and the other law enforcement agencies and military will be continually overshadowed by ICE and eventually subordinated to them, like the Republican guard of Iran or the SS in Nazi Germany.
