DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED
My BFF had this skill: whenever they sang an Elvis tune (like “Blue Moon”) their cats would start humping. They weren’t singing it weird, maybe a little more warbly than normal. Anyway, we were in this zoo once, and I said, “I wonder if that lion would react to your Elvis songs the same way your cats do!” I was just kidding, but my BFF started singing the same way and that lion suddenly became VERY alert and stared right at us. I started wondering if a properly motivated lion could leap that gap that was keeping us separated, and what I would do if it reached us. Anyway, my point is: it depends on how you sing it.
Mr Auld-Thomas and his colleagues named the city Valeriana after a nearby lagoon.
…
It is “hidden in plain sight”, the archaeologists say, as it is just 15 minutes hike from a major road near Xpujil where mostly Maya people now live.
This archeologist just discovered a Maya city, and they decided to call it “Valeriana” (in the language of the conquistadors) insted of something like “Xpujil” (in the language of the people who still live there.)
They’re not thinking big enough. They should call it “openai.com” and go for corporate sponsorship!
If you have a cat named “Garfield”, you are in big trouble.
Not sure what you mean. Apollo 11 used radio communication. It would have been possible to develop laser communication (i.e. light speed) without building a worldwide internet.
It was supposed to be space travel, instead it was the internet and cell phones. Good trade.
Love that Muhammad Ali pose.
Awesome, thanks for the lead.
Hey, sorry for asking this here… I used to access public instances through a URL like this: https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=sTEm--FVNe0 and previously there’d be a long list of public instances, whereas now there are only 3-4. I assume this is due to Google’s attacks. If you have a link available, can you direct me to a web page or discussion or something that explains exactly what’s going on there? I’m interested in learning more about the technical details. Thanks.
If you look at the meaning of the word “early” there are several senses.
Maybe Twitter would go for a Vichy France figure.
You’re right, but just to rephrase:
I would suggest listening to the original Neil Diamond version of Red, Red Wine and the UB40 version. Basically all UB40 did was make it a more reggaeish sound and add a dub bit in the middle and they took an absolutely awful song, turned it into something new, and made it theirs.
Hey, I agree. Check out the Tony Tribe version from 1969, if you’re not familiar with it. It kind of reinforces your point, because all these versions are so different.
Art by Ed Valigursky, was used for a paperback called “Wandl the Invader”
It’s OK dog. The thing is, you figured it out. You’re better off than those that never figured it out. Now you just gotta move on from where you’re at.

You’re right that it varies by state. For example, in Pennsylvania, the ballots have to be received by 8pm on Nov 5. Source: https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/vote/voter-support/mail-in-and-absentee-ballot.html
