You’re mixing up the Fermi paradox and the Drake equation.

Assuming you meant the Drake equation, more than half of the variables we have absolutely no statistical basis to decide on a fraction. Obviously they are non-zero, but they could be extremely improbable. We only have one example of intelligent life developing radio communications. Any estimate of a statistical likelihood of that using Earth as an example is meaningless without other examples.

Some pessimistic estimates give solutions as small 9.1 x 10^-13 which indicates we would be alone.

The Fermi Paradox riffs on the optimistic answer to Drake’s Equation. If other intelligent life is a certainty, why haven’t we found them yet?

Got mine a year ago and the OLED is really tempting. I’ve had the OLED switch and steam deck side by side and the screen on the switch is much better. What I’m hoping is that the screen is a drop in replacement option for the original.

I think Strange New Worlds season 1 is a strong contender for best Star Trek season. Though it has the advantage that it is a shorter season than most.

This is only true provided a good faith effort has been made to moderate the platform to remove such content. At least in the US.

The red shirt part of the joke is referring to TOS exclusively because it was so prevalent. But really it’s a larger trope found across lots of different shows and genres. They may not wear red shirts but you’ll know them when you see them.

I think it’s a great joke and has stood the test of time. You should try watching TOS before proclaiming that the joke doesn’t work.

This is a problem for potential growth. The language surrounding the Fediverse, the people communicating it’s strengths, the wild west flavor, and the content within the sites themselves are going to be geared towards that demographic. Late Gen-X and early Millennials are probably going to feel at home here but if we don’t work towards making the Fediverse more inclusive to other demographics it won’t be adopted as much as we would like.

I can’t speak specifically for steam deck, but I have used the 360 wireless receiver on Mint before with no problems.

I’ve been in developer mode on betas for a while so I wasn’t aware that wasn’t the vanilla experience. Having a relatively normal Linux package manager could be nice as an easy alternative to Discover.

I’m curious what would be worth getting through nix though. I suppose anything that isn’t on Discover, but I haven’t had too hard a time finding what I’ve wanted so far.

Is there anything significant on nix that’s unavailable with Pacman or Discovery? Seems it’s more like a traditional package manager with more mainline Linux repositories.

If you read the whole sentence it’s fairly clear that BlackCat is the subject that is doing the claiming. There’s room for making it more clear but it’s not misleading as written.

Hyperlight Drifter caught me in just the right way to really enjoy it. Not sure how to explain but it was intriguing and atmospheric in a way I hadn’t really experienced in many games at the time.

Celeste and Shovel Knight are my favorite semi-recent games. I’m always game for A Link to the Past though.

I miss how AMA used to be. But it’s been years since I enjoyed one. There’s definitely room for a better version of that. It will be hard get the kinds of high profile people that Reddit gets without a bigger user base but it could happen.

I’ll miss the meta subreddits like lostredditors, switcheroo, SubredditSimulator and SubSimulatorGPT2. I’ll miss niche communities built around less mainstream games and shows. I’m really going to miss DaystromInstitute and SonicShowerThoughts.

Overall my biggest concern is over the giant stockpile of years of community answers to all kinds of questions. If Reddit falls what happens to all of that? How do we pick up the slack if it does?
