If this is real, it’s honestly very impressive a man spent his entire life in the clergy, genuinely devoting himself to his flock, and still kept up with tech better than his brother, who I think is in finance of some kind?

I don’t like scroll-wheel clicking luckily. Has never felt natural. Just set middle click to one of the thumb buttons and never thought about it again tbh. 😅

politics @lemmy.world•Unemployment improved — because thousands of workers disappeared. Where did they go?
9·12 days agoSo far as I know,
gig work is not counted in the data, meaning driving for delivery apps, etc. So they probably dropped from the tracked economy into the gig economy.I was wrong, see below comment
Some may also have pursued further education in some form.
Seperately, considering the adjustment downward for literally every months data following it’s release, you can probably assume even the slight gain in employment this month will be adjusted down to a loss overall in a month or two.

9·13 days agoLithium ion batteries cannot super accurately report their own charge so the percentage isn’t necessarily digit accurate.
I am also usually just making sure it’ll get me to a place I can charge it when I actually need to worry about charge. That doesn’t usually require like the difference between say 33% and 26% for me.
I just need to be able to see if I’ve got like a fifth of battery left or less / more.
Admitedly also with the ADHD if there’s a percentage I fixate on it for no reason so it’s less annoying for me to have it off.
Same with the battery level in my e-bike. 👀 I know it’ll get me to work and back as it always does but not constantly fixating on the remaining battery is impossible.

5·13 days ago“Aw shucks, sometimes you just don’t win guys. But boy oh boy they really gave him a hard time before nothing came of it huh? They really totally tried so hard guys. I will remember them fondly and vote for them going forward!!”
Another meanless “written commitment” extracted from people proven to lie. Maybe worse than the other useless habit of writing strongly worded letters in the “No we totally tried guys” category.

politics @lemmy.world•Senate passes sweeping Russia sanctions bill negotiated by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham
32·14 days agoThe bipartisan package allows the president to impose tariffs on the world’s top five purchasers of Russian oil or natural gas, including China and India. It provides exceptions for countries that import less than 15% of their natural gas from Russia and are taking steps to reduce those imports.
Allows but does not require.
The legislation also includes sanctions on Putin, senior Russian political and military leaders, Russian financial institutions and Russian energy projects. It would expand U.S. sanctions to target older, reflagged oil tankers that Russia uses to circumvent existing U.S. sanctions on Russian oil and energy revenues. The bill also allows the White House to waive sanctions or restrictions if the president certifies to Congress that it’s in the national interest.
And also allows him to undo any of the stuff he doesn’t get a say over directly.
Very cool!
I have no doubt he will use it as an excuse to further fracture our global power and image in attempts to extort easy wins, personal wealth, or both.
But I do approve of increased support for Ukraine and am thankful there has been progress, atleast in messaging, from the right toward Ukraine.
Also
Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., who had held up passage of the package over the tariff authority, said he received a written commitment from the Trump administration through U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer that ensures guardrails. The tariffs would be lifted once the countries are no longer on the lists of those purchasing Russian oil and gas, or helping to evade sanctions, he said.
Guys it’s fine.
I said IT’S FINE. HE GOT A WRITTEN COMMITMENT.

1·14 days agoBegging you to explain what you mean by “same moderation period we’re seeing with Mormons”.
(I realize that statement generally expresses criticism but in this case I am just very genuinely curious to hear your thoughts)
Aware of the early days of the religion trying to basically declare their sovereignty as a nation but not sure that’s what you’re talking about in context.

News@lemmy.world•Trump voter pleads for fiancée's release after ICE arrest: "They're destroying families"
47·15 days agoHe clearly has not accepted that in-group/out-group dynamics always leave potential for you to become part of the out-group, or to have only assumed you’d be in the in-group in the first place. Just thinks Trump messed up by taking HIS partner instead of someone else’s.
“go after criminals” he continues to say, failing to realize that especially in the most heavily incarcerated country on the planet, criminals are actually also largely moms and pops and kids with families that are torn apart by agents of state violence over incredibly minor or intentionally targeted laws.
My experience with so many people is that even when solidly proven to have held a belief they no longer find suits them, they do not look for a systematic fault in their mental processing models or a larger misunderstanding in their base assumptions of reality to find how it was they were led into false belief. They simply assume it was either a fluke, or that reality does indeed conform to their ideas and just made a mistake this time.

8·16 days agoHonestly, I voted for El-Sayid and I barely remembered they were yesterday.
Knew when it was and was keeping track, telling people to go vote. Woke up on the day and only remembered when I saw an article about the pivotal election in Michigan that day and ran down to my polling place before work.
So to keep the balloon filled and maintained, I’m thinking we get a low paid part-time worker. They’ll have to be on call for emergency needs of course so open availability.
And to make sure they do the job right, perchance an underfunded, understaffed regulation and inspection system?
