The problem is how much recognition anyone else may have to the voting population. People here pay attention. Most voters do not. I can only speculate, but I’d bet that better than 20% of voters don’t actually know who the VP is. I’d make a similar wager that more than that didn’t know who their congressional representatives are.
Pure speculation, but say that 30% of registered eligible voters are unaware of a new candidate. Probably about 1/3 of those would never vote Democrat anyway. How do you get the remainder excited about the new candidate and fight off the inevitable misinformation in the next 3.5 months?
Anyone that fills that role is going to be starting at zero with a not insignificant number of voters.
When Trump does lose, the Roberts court will crown him winner by Christmas. The best hope is for Biden to have enough of a showing in swing states that SCOTUS wouldn’t be able to deny it.
I did. But I also watched a number of his speeches before and after. He over prepared and tripped over his own feet. Reagan likely was in decline for over half his years but they celebrate him now.
Biden did horrible, but he seemed unnaturally prepped to me. I don’t care what the practiced Biden does, I’m more concerned with what he’s like over a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone.
My quarterly goals are meant to be
And specifically should not be
Far left to far right it’s all a scam. You’ll see people slam a policy and still come up with a reason to vote for that policy. Almost all raise money from the same corporate interests.
This only gets better with major election finance reform and ethics reform with teeth.
I haven’t looked them up, but I’m guessing most who voted for it are in purple districts and trying to keep their seats.
But fuck that bill. Their anti-woke war is going to cause a talent drain across the federal government. If my family was living on a base in a state without reproductive protections I’d be looking for a transfer or a new job.
I wasn’t discounting anyone. I wasn’t even offering a solution. Simply an anecdote.
Well said.
I grew up playing soccer on a coed team. At a certain age you could be picked or tryout for a more advanced league. Up until highschool we were devided by skill not gender and I have no problem admitting there were more than a few girls that were much more skilled than I was.
Good ole Chode
Won’t last.
Back then, most people didn’t understand the threat that was Trump. I sure didn’t know all of the horrific things he did. This was pre Epstein. This was before Stormy.
I thought he was just a bombastic rich asshole with a shit political outlook.
Someone taking a job in that campaign had no reason to think it would be toxic. Most campaigns are not run by the candidate but by the party.
This woman has done so much work for many people who worked on the campaign. She has spent her own resources to get the NDAs that her and others signed declared non binding, or whatever the legal term is.
I’m not a fan of Trump supporters, but telling them to pound sand because they supported him at some point but have seen the errors in their ways will do us no favors.
There are many people under the age of 25 who do not fully understand what happened on January 6. They are being inundated with news of genocide and how Biden is directly responsible. They do not fully understand what the first Trump presidency was. Only politics junkies seem to understand the threat of project 2025 and plan 47.
We have an entire generation who hate Biden and didn’t see the threat of Trump.
And how much of that content was provided at a loss?
YouTube has always had ads. But less usage meant less cost. If 40% are using ad blockers, more ads will be shown to the 60%.
There is an unspoken agreement that if you consume you allow the ads. By using ad blockers, we’ve brought a lot of this on ourselves.
That being said, my views are very fantastical. Profit is the ultimate driver and very few (wiki who doesn’t even use ads) are only hoping to cover costs.
There needs to be a balance.
There is still a non zero cost associated with storing and streaming this content.
This is why we need consumer focused privacy laws. Within our lifetime there will no longer be free content or we will not be able to escape ads (Idiocracy style).
Lots of unpopular opinions in here and I’m willing to add mine to the mix.
I’m well aware of ad blockers, and use them occasionally. I also block trackers like pendo through DNS entries on my router. I pay for YouTube.
But I also allow ads and welcome them.
I remember when you couldn’t get email unless you were in a school or paid for it. I remember a time when the fastest Internet loaded images line by line. I remember an Internet without videos, or even GIFs.
Services cost money. You use the service, you are the commodity. I’ve accepted this. A few ads don’t kill me and it helps to support providers. I’m quite numb to ads.
Yes they are tracking me and selling my data, but what does that actually mean? I get more targeted offers. More targeted ads.
We’ve become scared of being tracked by corporations, but for what reason?
Providing content costs money. The days of the free Internet will quickly come to an end without advertisers.
Minimum wage will be the next thing to go.
Not taxing tips is actually a gift to the employers more than to the employees. When a tipped worker claims 100$ they will have taxes and SSI withheld from their hourly wage AND the employer will also have to pay into SSI for that claimed tip amount.
Do away with taxes on tips, then make the argument that there shouldn’t be a minimum for service workers at all. Eventually we get rid of minimum wage completely and SSI.
