Tuberville wants to blame democrats for this. He is the sole reason for this gap in military readiness.

He wants to block military members from being able to family plan outside of the state of Alabama. Military members should not be subject to Alabama’s medieval and draconian laws.

Not the sole reason, he doesn’t need to be on the armed services committee. The other Republicans could force him out at anytime.

Why are Republicans so dead set on handicapping our military? They attack our economy, elections! Who side are they on?

Russia’s side, it’s not even a question. Don’t forget these assholes went to Russia on July 4th not that long ago.

Who knows how much dirt they have on the republican party, especially since the rnc was hacked at the same time as the dnc, but only the dnc emails got released.

What a patriot, bravely refusing to do his goddamn job at the expense of his country’s military. Surely there’s no way this could backfire due to all the peace and lack of growing tension across the globe.

If nobody runs against him with the slogan “I’ll fulfill the responsibilities of my position”, that’s a golden opportunity missed.

Less “tip of the spear”, more “tip of the impacted bowel”. We’ll only have relief when he’s dislodged and regular movements can resume.

Because how the system was designed it was never an issue before. It’s a committee and was always bipartisan. He made it political and extremely partisan. They can remove him though anytime.

Without unanimous consent the process takes a lot longer. The current backlog of 300 nominations could be cleared in 1 vote with unanimous consent. Without that it’s much slower. I don’t know how slow, but I think each nomination ends up requiring multiple procedural votes like “when are we voting on this?” and so on.

Even if each individual vote were to take the 3ish hours Tuberville claims, that’s still 900 hours - over 100 working days / 20+ weeks of business just to clear this logjam he’s created.

As I understand it, the Senate’s normal rules require each appointment to be discussed individually in the Senate. But the armed forces are so big now that they are typically discussed in committee at the same time. But since they haven’t changed the actual rule yet, in order to batch all the nominations together they need unanimous consent of all senators.

So, Coach is using that as a weapon to get what he wants. Yeah, blame him if you want, but we should also blame the culture in the Senate where they continually rely on unanimous consent to get things done, rather than take the time to fix underlying rules.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday stepped down from his role Monday, leaving the Navy, Army and Marine Corps with acting heads.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday slammed the holds, which are stretching into a fifth month with no resolution in sight.

“Because of this blanket hold, for the first time in the history of the Department of Defense, three of our military services are operating without Senate confirmed leaders,” Austin said during a relinquishment ceremony at the U.S.

“Smooth and swift transitions of confirmed leadership are central to the defense of the United States and to the full strength of the most lethal fighting force in history,” Austin said.

“And it’s time for the Senate to confirm all of our superbly qualified military nominees, including the 33rd chief of Naval Operations.”

“This particular stand is necessary because the Biden administration has shown that, unless held accountable, they will continue to violate the law and use our tax dollars to promote an extreme left wing agenda,” a statement from Tuberville’s office said.

I think the most important paragraph was missed:

Three military services are now without Senate-confirmed heads for the first time in history, as Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) holds up the confirmations of more than 300 senior military officers to protest the Pentagon’s new abortion policy.

The tl;dr kind of makes it sound like the Senate Democrats are responsible for the holds. It’s just one Republican and his anti-woke crusade.

God I hate these dumb fucks and idiots that can’t think with more than 2 brain cells. No long term planning or thinking. Just “oh my semi-ideological opponent wants it? Nah” Half of the US really went crazy because a black man was elected president. And they still haven’t gotten over it almost a decade later.

If the seething rage some Republicans still feel over Nixon is anything to go by, they’ll never get over this sleight against their being, and they’ll continuously demand an additional pound of flesh in recompense every chance they get.

Because they weren’t held accountable last time, it’s 10 times worse this time. And if we let them get away with it again, there won’t be another chance to hold them accountable because they’ll destroy this country before that happens again. Hell, they’re practically destroying it now.

tldr omits the “why” so if you’re not reading the article or not already aware :

Three military services are now without Senate-confirmed heads for the first time in history, as Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) holds up the confirmations of more than 300 senior military officers to protest the Pentagon’s new abortion policy.

      Blocked by one single Republican

Let’s be honest, he says it’s about abortion. But he is really throwing a fit to try and get Space Command and Space Force headquarters in Alabama. As usual it’s about the money that would bring to his district.
