Like I mean a place that doesn’t feel like a total corpo nothing flavorless anywhere monstrosity. I don’t even care if it’s gross or rickety I just want it to feel like a real place.
I never stayed at one before but I wanted to do something special and they are all like $200+ even on a Tuesday. Damn I just wanted a hot tub night.
I could maybe swing like $120 but nothing like that exists. Even the big corpo ones start at $160. At this point, I should just build an onsen lmao.
I think it’s cheaper if you try to book it far out ahead of time. like a month out.
I am not capable of that much forethought lol.
I get that they have to make money or whatever but they all do seem way too expensive for no good reason.
right?! like some of them it was $550 for a night. Like it’s a few things I can do that I can charge $550 a night but damn…
and you know that $500 aint mostly going to the hospitality workers :[
fr… hotel is the one thing I am the best at boycotting but maybe as I get older and my back and hips get stiffer I won’t want to sleep out as much.
And somehow they still manage to be cheaper than AirBnBs run by small businesses tyrants.
However what’s up with hostels turning into hotels? There’s more and more places that call themselves a hostel but it’s just a hotel. Why??
because they can get away with charging more money
I’ve stayed in like over a dozen for the last couple of years and even worked in one for an internship. Usually, I paid 50 to 100€/night and are always my biggest expense of going to concerts or other events/longer distance trips.
I much prefer that than places where landlords very clearly prefer to turn apartments into AirBNBs and at the same time allow rent to baloon in the area.
For sure. I ain’t been but my impression is that hotel prices in europe are less nutty. Here, when I worked at a shelter we would sometimes put people up at a dogshit bedbug motel for $55 a night with a sympathetic manager we had a connection with. What was your experience in the 50 euro hotel?
Fine, really - though I am not picky in the slightest.
The prices vary a lot depending if you’re in a city or rural-ish area. You will struggle to find something below 90€ in Berlin or München for example.
If you’re looking at a booking website, you might be able to get a slightly cheaper price (like 5-10%) by calling the front desk and booking directly with them. Sometimes it’s cheaper than the hotel’s website. Anxiety tax sucks lol
5-10% is still crazy! Some of the really handsome ones I looked at are as much as my monthly rent for a night. I wish I was rich so I could go on cute and quaint vacations.
God damn, some expensive ass hotels. The only time I stay in hotels is for work, and I have to use their booking service, but the tiny amount of times I stay in one for personal reasons I try to call the front desk.
Yeah I think I’m just going to skip it lol. I think I have spent all of 5 nights in paid lodgings in my adult life. Usually I just rough it or go places I can stay with friends or comrades.
I only do hotels when I visit my family for holidays, but the ones I stay at have been way more expensive than they were 5 years ago.
They’re also worse quality. My biggest gripe is that they put the AC on a motion sensor, so it stops working when you go to sleep. I’d be fine with it if the room stayed cool, but when you’re on a higher floor it the heat rises. Climate control used the be the most basic feature of a hotel room.
I just came back from china where like 5 star hotels go for $100, luxury hotels go for like $50, and like regular ones for like $25 and these prices feel even more absurd…
BUILD THE ONSEN!
