6x19: Lessons

It also doesn’t hurt that it’s basically a sequel to The Inner Light.

One of my favorite episodes of TNG for no reason other than the shot of Picard playing the flute with some other actors hands operating the instrument holes. When I realized they weren’t his hands I couldn’t un-see “Muppet Picard”.

          This explains so much!

It always seriously stumped me as to how Bowie was so good at that. Like did he learn it for the movie? If so, was he practicing all the time, because the movements are seriously flawless. I can’t believe I never thought of this.

You have solved one of the great mysteries that has followed me through my life, but apparently never thought to look up.

This is insane, I never realized how much of this is happening right before my eyes! The one I posted was the first I notice on my own because it was as obvious as the Swedish Chef. I didn’t even get what Ummthatguy was pointing out until your post gave more context. Guess I was distracted by the bulge!

            It is rather mesmerizing.

Tried to find a gif of that shot where Hoggle grabs Jareth’s leg and is way too close to the danger-zone, but instead found a behind the scenes shot of both the juggling and the cod piece:

It makes so much sense that a Henson movie is one that flew under the radar for me. I never would have guessed they use the puppet effects on live actors. That’s so cool how well simple practical effects work in movies. I wonder how many we still see in modern movies and just assume they are CGI. The Borg Queen was one I saw on here a while back that blew me away.

I’ve seen the non picard hands in this gif you posted right here but I didn’t realize until just now that the shot in the OP is also fake hands

I didn’t even see that! I was just reminded of the other, more obvious shot. I might never be able to watch another movie again without being suspicious if the actors elbows are offscreen!

It is the image I posted. I might be misremembering, maybe it was the from the other episode Inner Light. After that point though, I was constantly on the lookout for more Muppet trek. There was one shot of Riker that was a bit suspicious. 😁

I saw that roll-up piano she’s playing in this episide when I was a kid and I was in love with it. I don’t even play piano but the idea of flexible, roll-up electronics stuck with me over the decades.

Looking outside the ST universe, I’d say the perfect “breather” episode for a series would be Doctor Who (2005) S03E10 - Blink. 3 minutes of recording from the primary talent, and the entire rest of the episode is done by extras and every moment of it is engaging and extremely well done.

I didnt like her. I felt the same way as Riker in that she was taking advantage of JL.

Yeah, I thought that the first time I watched it, but the second (and now third) time, I felt they had really good chemistry.
