General tip: almost all kinky stuff can be sourced from non-kinky stores, at non-kinky prices. Get your ropes and chains from a hardware store, get your safety shears from some online first aid supply store… As an added bonus, it will be much better quality than the general sex shop trash.

Disclaimer: Not at all my area of expertise.

Isn’t the stuff explicitly designed for kink generally safer and more comfortable? I was under the impression that using just any old rope would lead to some unpleasant friction burns.

If it actually is, maybe, but average sex shop stuff is just run-off-the-mill product with a kinky sticker on it. Depending on material it may be conditioned, but that’s still cheaper to do on your own and also makes it a more personal tool, which I like.

Friction burns come more from bad rope handling than bad quality / material. It’s not supposed to rub over skin continuously (but can be used consciously for the sensation, of course).
