Excuse the shitty emojis, this is a post about scented products!

So perfumes, fragrance, cologne, deodorant, body wash, soap, lotions, potions, lip balm, make-up…anything you apply to yourself because it smells good and makes you happy, but also what products make you you gag?

For me Palmers cocoa butter and coconut oils smell amazing, but I can find a bit too much sometimes, and have to restrict my use

Perfumes, I have too many to list, but I love some not all florals, woody, spicy, dirty musk, boozy and amber notes. I’m a sucker for jasmine, patchouli and earthy scents

Also scented soap, I’m quite partial to The Highland Soap Company products as they do wild raspberry, seaweed and heather which smell fab

Tom Fords Tuscan Leather perfume makes me nauseous, after I wore it once while exercising

I’m also not keen scented deodorants, because they interfere with any perfumes I want to wear, and also they’re too ‘clean’ and ‘pretty’

What are your favourite and most reviled scented products?

I think we were separated at birth, and I love the details!

I’ve got maybe around a hundred or so different perfumes, mostly full bottles but also decants, I’m quite jealous that you can get dupes so easily, definitely more cost effective

I have several from Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, Chanel, Mona di orio, Dior

But I’ve not been able to wear mine these days due to my bf breathing issue, but I did spray my faves into those nasal ‘sniffer’ things (like a decongestant tube) so I have a choice of some for on the go enjoyment

When I was still regularly wearing them, I’d mix it up and wear heavier fragrance in the summer as sometimes it ‘blooms’ differently, but as you point out it can be a bit too much, which is why I have such bad memories of Tuscan leather

The lush perfume sounds interesting so I’ll check it out, also what is the vegan perfume house you mentioned? Sounds like it could be right up my street, and I like the refillable bottle approach

I forgot about hair products, the hair food smells delicious, I have the coconut one, and the papaya, I normally don’t like things so overtly foodie, but on my hair it seems to work, and it helps that the bf hasn’t yet been bothered by it yet 👍

I definitely don’t have that much, thats really impressive, but I’m definitely increasing my numbers bit by bit! I know some people have their forever go-tos but I do love to use them to express myself so I don’t really see myself sticking to any particular one forever so I imagine I’ll end up with a good variety at some point.

I think the hair stuff works because its generally a bit more subtle unless you go overboard, and its a much lighter fragrance. I do also really like the papaya one but the banana one is better for my hair.

The place I get my dupes from is Eden Perfumes, they have a location in London and one in Brighton but they also do their stuff online, including refills.

What you say about the perfume being different in summer is interesting, I never thought about it being the season itself with different humidity and temperatures that might influence how it smells. I guess in winter too it clings to all the extra clothes you wear vs summer.

I’d mix it up and wear heavier fragrance in the summer as sometimes it ‘blooms’ differently

I did this recently with Mauboussin Mauboussin, just a single spritz to the chest during one of the hottest and most humid days of the year so far, and it was incredible!

Long trails of ylang ylang were subtly winding away from my skin and that plummy amber was a soft, intimate bubble that somehow became aquatic and watery, like fragrant bath water.

Any more than that single spritz and it would have been upsetting though, it’s faaaar too heavy for heat.

Yep, I think the dose makes the poison in these cases, a judicious spritz definitely avoids overwhelm.

I’ve also found some summery fragrances can take on an icy quality in winter too

I think that’s one of the interesting things with fragrance, different temperatures and seasons can reveal different facets

Tuberose Criminalle from Serge Lutens. Its a tuberose bomb that leans in to the cooler side rather than bosomy floral, I’ve seen it described as ‘florist fridge’ with, I think, the notes of wintergreen bringing the chill

In summer I find it quite cooling and fresh, which is strange for a white floral, but in winter I get the creamy white bosomy notes

I find green fragrances and vetivers less ‘fuzzy’ in winter, I think the cold helps to bring out the different notes

            edit spelling

I need to find somebody who likes tuberose that I can test that on, none of those notes work on me but I’m so curious now, haha.
