I’m long time Redditor. I don’t like what Reddit admins are doing. I use RIF on mobile. While still not sure if I’m moving here, I’m close to. This place needs work. A bit slow and disorganized. Hope we can help it.
It seems the main issue with performance is a bug with web sockets in Lemmy that could be fixed in the next major version release. The web frontend freezes when you perform an action, and even if that action completed in half a second, it remains frozen for ~10 seconds afterwards.
Theyre getting rid of websockets all together, which should give a big performance boost. Right now the backend maintains connection for every active user and pushes an ungodly amount of messages for no good reason
I’ve been using Reddit for a long time, too. And I don’t like the consolidated "protest"of the mods. I understand that the origins of this protest should be sought under the desk of the CEO of Mastodon. I say this because the Lemmy/kbin posts are perfectly visible in Mastodon and I think eventually Lemmy users will run to Mastodon.
The issue of the number of users is a matter of advertising sold, which means it’s a matter of money. And half an hour ago I got a response from one of the mods who defected to Lemmy. He considers himself the “nobility” of Reddit. I was very surprised.
