“When we were kids, we used to modify our parent’s shotguns and then shoot them for fun” has got to be one of the most american things i’ve read

Imagine giving your kid a shotgun, ignore their cutting the barrel off and letting them play with it in the yard.

Kid could mean a lot of things.

By the time I was ten, we had major safety rules branded into our brains about all sorts of dangerous things, including guns.

Growing up in a shop, we’d catch hell for even pointing the air hose in someone else’s direction.

We had drills that could easily break your arm if you weren’t super careful.

It all depends on the parents.

It’s a nice looking gun for being funtionally useless. It’s a muzzle loader and the manufacturer recommends 40 grains of black powder which is a pretty small load.

One of the reviews I read said the muzzle velocity and energy are something like 250fps @ 70 ft/lbs. Basically on par with a .22 short fired from a pistol of similar length. The recoil is also pretty minimal.

Basically good for showing off and bad for shooting anything.

At least the one in the story is single-shot.

The double barrel is a great idea: one shot to snap your wrist bringing the barrel in line with your head and a second round ready to finish the job…

I’m sure calibers exist that could knock me over, but I haven’t fired one. Remember a lot of times being warned that it “kicks like a mule” and I brace for it but when I pulled the trigger, it barely did anything.

Started making me hate shooting in video games because I know I can control the recoil on some of the weapons used in the game in real life better than the game allows you to. Mostly small caliber, semi-auto things like 9mm handguns but I have also fired a fully automatic MAC-11.

I love shooting 12ga shotguns. Except for one. An old bolt-action Westernfield shotgun. Most uncomfortable gun I’ve fired. Manageable recoil, but it always left bruises.

I’ve been happy with every other 12ga I’ve shot. It’s just that one particular gun that I hate. I think the solid butt plate is narrower. It feels more like getting hit with a hammer than kicked by a mule.

Grand dad’s 16ga coach gun… [Chef’s kiss]. Hard to find ammo for it, though.
