I was in my 20s when Shrek came out. I’ve still never seen any of them. Maybe I’ll get around to it one of these days.

Kind of overrated IMO, one of those films with 100 “pop culture” references and a lot of slapstick.

But lots of people liked it so what do I know.

Shrek 2 , I feel has a special place in Hollywoo history along side the first Scary Movie. They are very accurate pop culture time capsules. The first shrek was yet another giant middle finger to Disney from Katzenberg, they are all very much products of their time.

It was definitely a milestone at the time. At least for me, personally, it was the first “kids’ movie” I saw that was chock full of “adult” jokes (that I understood.)

Granted, I grew up with Rocko’s Modern Life, Animaniacs, and other shows that had hidden jokes for the parents. But as far as movies went? Shrek was groundbreaking for me.
