this week’s reading is Zoopolis:

Stressed, exhausted, ready for vacation/more hw time. A company reached out to recruit me, but there are rumors about the skill assessment being very difficult, and frankly I’m ass at math and math word problems. It also might not be 100% multiple choice, so chances of me passing are even slimmer.
So I’m accepting that I’ll probably fail and continue with my current gruesome plan on finishing my design portfolio… which hasn’t been making progress because of all the jobs and full time school I do.
I don’t think I’ll celebrate Christmas with anyone this year. It’s always been my favorite holiday, but currently it’s a painful reminder of how messy and confusing my relationships are right now. I don’t think my bf is going to visit me even though he said he would— bad economy, after all. Just really sucks when we’ve talked about it a lot…and it was what I saw as the light at the end of this hellish tunnel of a semester. Oh well.
I don’t know what I’m looking forward to right now.
Doing OK. Have an interview coming up. Fingers crossed.
Been getting into Enshrouded with friends and really enjoying the social connection and fun. Needed the brain break, as I feel burned out from the application treadmill.
Finally, want to spend the time to learn a new skill. Mid life so was thinking R and getting further into Python to enhance my data science chops. Recommendations welcome on that front.
R and python are both great for a data science cv in my experience, I’d recommend having a look at some introductory ML courses in R/Py as well if you have the time. Lots of places out there expect you to have some ML experience.
Good luck on your interview, get deep into the weeds and become snake master.

My friend lives in Gaza City. Her dad waa killed during the first few days of the “ceasefire.” Her little brother is ten and he doesnt speak anymore. He is the sweetest little boy.
We were in almost-daily communication but she and her family had to move to a new apartment in an area that suffered a lot more damage so there is no internet. Her house and her mom’s chicken farm was destroyed and no one can work (my friend is a lawyer) or go to school (she has two brothers in college, two in high school, and one in elementary).
She told me there are still a lot of attacks and there is no real ceasefire. Gaza isn’t really in the news here in America anymore, which is discouraging to me.
My friend’s people are being exterminated and their homeland (they have no nation) has been obliterated.
Israel is a fascist ethnostate. It’s surreal. To be clear, I am not citicizing Jews writ large or Israelis for BEING Jewish. This is about their actions and their own statements.
I know it’s nothing compared to what the Palestinians are actually going through, but it’s been hard to deal with. I don’t know anyone else with friends there so it isn’t very helpful to talk to people I know about it. They all just get uncomfortable; I don’t blame them but it’s just not comforting.
I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. The UN Commission of Inquiry holds Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly responsible for ordering acts that constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of genocide. Let’s hope that he faces real justice some day.
Thank you 🥹
I’m heading to a conference that several of my friends from NM that I haven’t seen since I moved this past summer are also attending. Super psyched to get to hang out with them!
Bleeehhh. v.v
