China certainly has its problems; if it had better LGBT+ laws, I would be more inclined to try living there as an expat (particularly to get out of the U.S. in this political moment, which feels increasingly unsafe), but it’s just not possible until they recognize same-sex marriage (I wouldn’t be eligible for a spousal visa until then). Instead, the government seems to be cracking down on LGBT+ folks, e.g. jailing women for writing gay erotica and shuttering LGBT+ centers
