James Watson, a renowned molecular biologist and one of the Nobel Prize winners for discovering the structure of DNA, died Thursday after a brief illness, according to a statement from his former employer.
For anyone curious, Rosalind Franklin did get a mention… In the 17th and 18th paragraphs. Might as well be a footnote, just like the original paper. He was an awful, pitiful man, when you read the fine print.
Franklin is represented in our house with a poster on our livingtoom wall along with a few other scientists we like. I don’t have one for Watson or Crick
They never will. They have a strict policy against awarding dead people and have cowered behind that for decades. But the fact that Watson and crick never credited her in any significant way is doubly shitty.

Also, a straight up racist too… The Nobel committee should admend the prize to include Rosalind.

But why aren’t there any famous women scientists?
