minus-squareTJA!@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up28·3 天前No they say you should use the things from big to small. So: bowl, then cereal, then milk. Which sounds reasonable
minus-squareByteJunk@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·3 天前Not just reasonable, that’s the very definition of reason.
minus-squareViking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·3 天前For those keeping score, that’s ordering files by date and cereal confusion it’s good for. For everything else, DMY is the way to go.
minus-squareZiglin (it/they)@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·3 天前Also anything that may be viewed by someone who doesn’t already know what year the document is from.
minus-squarePotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.delinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up7·3 天前I’m trying SO hard rn to resist the urge to be militant about my favorite datetime format
minus-squarefleurc@lemmy.blahaj.zonelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·3 天前DMY is good. YMD is also good. Anything else is stupid
minus-squareViking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·3 天前Is it D(ay)M(onth)Y(ear) aka the best one for 99% of all things?
minus-squarePotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.delinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8arrow-down1·3 天前Year, Month, Day, which is better because it’s sortable
minus-squareu/lukmly013 💾 (lemmy.sdf.org)@lemmy.sdf.orglinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·3 天前Sure. And I like to sort by month.
minus-squareByteJunk@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up6·3 天前That’s one of the weirdest kinks I’ve seen, but I guess you should do you… thumbs up
minus-squareViking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·3 天前That’s ISO 8601. While I’ll concede that it’s the best one for sorting thinks that span more than a year, such as the photos on your phone, DMY makes much more sense for everything else.
minus-squarePotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.delinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·2 天前Okay I totally see your perspective and I could stop there but I love arguing so let me play devil’s advocate here. The year is most important, especially if you assume it’s the current year but it turns out not to be: The important party is tomorrow, next year. Your last doctors checkup was three weeks ago, ten years ago.
minus-squarearrow74@lemmy.ziplinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·3 天前Seriously DMY is the way to go. I forget what day it is, generally I know the month and year.
minus-squareZiglin (it/they)@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·3 天前When looking at things older than 6 months the year is immediately more relevant to me than the day.
