On Tuesday, Japan’s parliament installed Sanae Takaichi, the new leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), as prime minister. The elevation to power of this ultra-nationalist, pro-war figure comes with a new ruling coalition that is rapidly pushing establishment politics even further to the right.

The position of Japan’s far right is basically that Imperial Japan is cool and good and, at worst, maybe just had a heated gamer moment here and there but they still need to return to a similar paradigm with an independent military and even fewer compunctions about their old war crimes. They are fascist freaks with an alarming degree of support and every propensity to lay the groundwork for repetitions of Nanjing and Unit 731.
Japan has compunctions about their old war crimes? Can’t imagine what an even more war crimes-denying Japan would be like
