In the retro space, the Genesis/Mega Drive had “Mutant League Football” which involved various teams of monsters (Skeletons, Orc-like “Mutants,” etc.) playing on a field strewn with land mines and bottomless pits, and as the coach you had options like “Bribe ref” which would need to be immediately countered with “kill ref.”
How interesting. I had never heard of that game before, and never thought that there was an earlier game like Blood Bowl, but from… checks notes 1993. (!?!)

Played that with my neighbor all the time, awesome game. There was also a cartoon show that came on super early in the morning.
