Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk the corner to the rubble that used to be a library
Line up to the mind cemetery nowThe fact that every single RATM song is applicable 30 years later has shown that humans are not capable of governing themselves effectively.
There was just another thread where people were talking about how many Gen Xers have gone full MAGA, but Rage is a quintessential Gen X band. Wtf happened
The Machine started paying people’s bills and they thought “Well maybe it’s not so bad…”
We do certainly live in a society
People are awful.
Always have been.
Always will be.
(Until we go extinct.)
Most people aren’t actually rebels, and many of those who are, are just mad that the status quo isn’t fascist enough.
They will remain applicable until the evil empire collapses.
Capitalist realism…
That verse rocks so hard.
The way he spits out “cannibal animal I”
What we don’t know keeps the contracts alive and movin’
We don’t have to burn the books, we just remove 'em
while arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells.
Rally 'round the family!
Pocket full of shells!
I think there’s an extra chicken in the 2nd line.
Disagree
I wish Zach de LA Rocha did more stuff :(
I remember reading interview with some old rock & roll musician and he said something like “people keep asking me why I’m not as rebellious anymore and I’m like ‘dude, I’m 50 and I have kids now. It’s your generation’s turn to rebel’”. So yeah, Zach is 55 now…
I mean, he did do that one song with RTJ not that long ago and stuff, I more meant I wish he’d done some solo rap after Rage. Obviously dude had a lot of valuable shit he was getting done and I get why he didn’t, I just like his rap a lot and think it would have been really nice to have more of him doing straight hip hop. Oh well.
Didn’t he have that one project, one night as a lion or something?
Pretty sure that was just the one EP …
Zach did his last album when he was about 30. Sure maybe it’s too late now, but I really want to know what was actually going on with him in the 00s. Some people even suspect three letter agency involvement, and TBH that sounds about as likely as any other explanation.
I think being in a band like RATM had to be really strange. You’re screaming as loud as you can about rotten system while at the same time getting rich thanks to this system. You know that fame helps you spread your message but at the same time it’s contrary to everything you’re preaching. I wouldn’t be surprised he simply gave up and left.
The microphone explodes, shattering the molds
High quality post
Who on earth downvoted this masterpiece?
Probably the same people who are mad that RATM got political
(aka media literacy = 0)
Absolutely. Saying “Rage against the machine got political” is like saying “water got wet”
