This one is bigger in area than Afghanistan, but not in population. And Tropical Rainforest, I do not know how Afghan mountains compare.

In the end it would be “interesting” to see how the army performs, it is better equipped than the Taliban imo (fighter jets, rocket launchers, guns). And the border regions to Columbia are hard to control.

decently equipped on paper. local ammo production facilities. some drones, and plenty of infantry portable anti-air and anti-tank gear. they also have hundreds of modernized self-tracking russian 40mm AA guns, which seem like they would be useful against drone attacks. the biggest factor in a protracted campaign is the massive popular militia. most use pretty outdated rifles but a singificant number have been equipped with full light infantry kit.

Surely they have other means to stop the boat without having to strike it? That’s what I don’t understand, unless they really do want to start a conflict.

I don’t understand the long term goal here (there must be one, they’re not so incompetent that they start a war just for bloodlust’s sake)

Are they trying to secure Venezuelan oil to fuel a future military campaign against China?

      Yeah, it’s about the oil.

Also potentially occupying territory in South America so central can be skipped for supply lines to function as we escalate the conflicts with Mexico and Canada.
