I’m a homebody nearly 100% of the time. And if I do leave the house - I’ll never be hanging out at a place like a bar. But I’ll imagine I somehow managed to talk to a slightly drunk (or more than typically honest) “moderate” republican who was willing to talk to a total stranger - me - about politics. They said they didn’t like Trump. And they seemed actually offended that I might think they are a racist. But what would they reply if I said “Trump is clearly a criminal, corrupt, a racist, a fascist, and the list continues. Trump fires woman and POC and in particular he always goes after women who are POC. There’s no denying it. The GOP is Trump’s party. If you vote GOP - you’re supporting Trump. So - how can you vote GOP?”
I like to think I have a good imagination. But every time I try to think of plausible things they might say - I don’t come up with anything juicy. There are empty platitudes that don’t answer the question at all. Like “Look, I’m a republican like my dad and my grandfather. It’s just who I am.” Or they give other non-answers like “Both parties are the same.”
If it’s a person willing to talk politics to a stranger at a bar, you’re going to get an answer that’s either completely untethered to reality or they’re gonna shrug and say that Kamala was a woke-marxist-transgender-commie.
