Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your “perfect world”. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. So the perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from.

That’s why we created this Matrix, set after the peak of your civilization. It sucked hard; very believable. And it didn’t even become our civilization for a long time; you guys really thought intelligence was just about finishing sentences. Jeez you guys are the worst.

Or just predicting the next word. Eery.

Suggestion, try the perfect society again, but ritualistically torture a child to death once a year. Obviously, the ritual would be a sham, with the child being actually an agent, but we’ll make the humans think that it’s real.
