Ontario is a boring as fuck, car-centric, anti-human shit hole. I say this as an Ontarian.
If all you want to see is how badly our urban planners have forsaken us, come to Ontario.
Go somewhere genuinely interesting like Québec, Newfoundland or BC. Hell, go to Yukon if you’re feeling particularly adventurous.
Ontario has very little in terms of natural wonder. If you come here, you’re going to Toronto for big city stuff or you’re a sucker for punishment as you’ll spend 75% of your trip driving places. At least if you go to QC, BC, or NL there’s shit to look at while you spend your trip budget on fuel and car rental costs.
TBF if they are European then the car centricness may itself be the tourist attraction.
Similar to visiting less developed countries to witness how much worse you could have it.
Niagara on the Lake and Prince Edward County are nice. But as a fellow Ontarian, we are headed to Vancouver Island for vacation.
Or the Canmore/Banff area
Go to Revelstoke over Banff.
• Less tourists • Equally fantastic mountains • You’re not in Alberta.I would still choose Canmore for several reasons.
- family has a house there
- local friends
- 5 minute walk to downtown
I haven’t spent much time in Ontario, but I wouldn’t really think of it as a tourist destination for international tourists.
Northern Ontario is very pretty, but yeah maybe not internationally famous.
I’d think BC, Niagara falls (Ontario), Quebec and the maritimes are more internationally famous for tourism.
Yes the maritimes are an amazing place that tourism should happen, I have only seen Newfoundland a couple of times and ben in New Brunswick’s airport. I have only been in a few of Toronto’s airports many times so I cannot say much about that city. I was in London Ontario for a weekend, all I really saw was the university and the airport. I have spent a couple of weeks in Ottawa and sure there are some nice places but I am sure going up north would probably be amazing, that however is not a trip you want to take when you where just on a 10+ hour flight. Going west I have spent lots of time in Alberta, Banff would be a nice place for them to hangout in. I have only seen Vancouvers airport but I have some family in Victoria so I have been out there once or twice.
I am born and raised in Saskatchewan, so I have no problem saying they can just skip over it but if they are willing to take road trips there are many beautiful and intriguing places they could go and see.
Speaking of going up north, tourists could go way up north say to Yellow Knife, I was up there for work once for 12 or so days. Had I had more time I would have seen some of the sites but I was fairly busy but the northern lights are cool! I like seeing them far away from civilization in Saskatchewan as they dance more but at least Yellow Knife has a tourist industry based around them, in Chinese culture if you are conceived under the northern lights you are supposed to have good luck or good fortune something like that.
Ontario has a lot to offer, even besides Niagara Falls. People who prefer cities can always find something to do in art-filled Toronto, which always strikes me with its cleanliness (I’m accustomed to NYC.) There are adventurous restaurants, lots of events, and public transit that makes it easy to visit if you’re staying in a nearby suburb (though I can’t speak to the prices, as it’s been a while since I’ve been there.)
There are forests and mountains to explore for outdoorsy types. I used to go camping up in Killarney, north of the Georgian Bay. There are crystal-clear lakes and pink mountains out there that provide incredible views. Algonquin National Park is another great option for campers and outdoorsy types.
I wish someday to visit Ontario again. I have a lot of good memories from that place.
Yes I am sure there are beautiful sites to be seen and culture in the the cities, and even more to see up north but what tourist wants to fly into one of the Ontario airport to drive up north? There are a few do not get me wrong but a majority would not.
Love to see it! Suck syphilitic balls America!!
