The most significant fact that emerged from the testimony was the acknowledgment by Bolsonaro and the other defendants that the former president conspired with the armed forces command to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers Party (PT), who was democratically elected in 2022.

Bolsonaro: It was an invitation. Why military commanders? I have the same training, we went to the same academy, we went to the same training schools; and the military, in good and bad times, are with you. I wasn’t in the mood to invite anyone to discuss any issue, it fell to them. … And I confess that I absorbed a lot of what they said and quickly came to the conclusion that there was nothing more to be done, that this government [Lula] was going to fall on its own, as it is falling now.

What is the meaning behind that last part? I don’t know the situation in Brazil.

Yeah, I think “falling” here is he doesn’t like Lula’s policies and calls it that, just like donnie used to say the biden admin was weeks away from full communism. I don’t believe right-wingers when they speak.

Nothing, Bolsonaro hates Lula da Silva and since promotes social programs, the right-wing says the goverment is failling bc they’re “wasting” money by actually helping people. Lula’s unpopularity actually comes from his neoliberal policies (be pushed by him or by the far-right controlled congress that has basically removed all power from the President since the 2016 coup).

It’s just right wing copium. The current gov has plenty of issues but there’s no sane way to describe it as “failing”, especially after Bolsonaro’s gov

Trial barely started, so it’s too soon to know.

I’d bet he will be sentenced to jail, but stay on home detention since he’s been basically killing himself by not taking care of his health or following medical advice after his multiple surgeries. I would not be surprised if he dies before this trial is concluded.
