It sucks to have people talk shit about something you like. There was a (long) time in my life where I would stop liking any music if someone said something negative about it, and it really bummed me out.

I also like stuff that has cops in it (e.g. Brooklyn 99), but I also acknowledge that it paints cops in a positive light. Some stuff is more obvious copaganda than others, but the common problematic element is showing cops as essentially good, with any bad being fixable by the cops. That doesn’t reflect reality, where most people experience cops as essentially bad, with fixes being actively resisted by the cops.

The characters and stories you love aren’t rendered fake and meaningless because they make being a cop look like a good thing, any more than they’re rendered meaningless because Disney only produced the movie because it would make a profit. Those are aspects of the movie that you may not love, but they’re just aspects.

Some folks will react to just the “cop propaganda” and ignore the rest of the movie. I think the healthiest way to handle that is to acknowledge that’s an aspect, and continue loving the parts you love.

Edit: THIS IS A COPYPASTA??? GOD DAMMIT
