Carney said a byelection should be held as quickly as possible to give Poilievre an opportunity to win a seat in the House of Commons, if that’s what the Conservative Party wants.

Poilievre lost his seat in Ottawa’s Carleton riding on Monday after holding it for more than 20 years, so he’s in the unusual position of being a party leader without a seat.

“I already told Mr. Poilievre that I will trigger a byelection if that is the decision of the Conservative Party,” he said in French.

Then, in English: “I will ensure that it happens as soon as possible. No games, nothing.”

Why? The CPC can get a new leader. Leaders that don’t win their seat shouldn’t be the leaders of that party.

      That’s up to the CPC.

Carney said a byelection should be held as quickly as possible to give Poilievre an opportunity to win a seat in the House of Commons, if that’s what the Conservative Party wants.

Carney’s message is that he’s not interested in playing Parliamentary games. I’m not convinced it’s a good idea, but it’s an interesting move.

He can’t lose by doing this, if the CPC really wants Pollievre to stay, they’ll do it. Worst case it’s gonna be status quo but best case, he loses again and it flips a seat, presumably to the Libs, but more importantly away from the CPC.

What I am saying is that they should oust the leader who can’t win his own riding.

They probably will (as they have in the past), when they do the mandatory leadership review.

Even if PP wins this by-election, he will still face that review from the party.

Your opinion should be informed and based on the facts of the matter, and even if it was, it is completely pointless because you have no power in the situation. Unless you happen to be a CPC donor in which case you should probably show up to the meetings if you want your voice heard, not a left leaning lemmy instance.

Knowing that they can keep him according to their bylaws does not change my opinion.

And regardless of my power you seem to be talking down to me and dictating how I should act.

I voiced my opinion you voiced your disagreement. You are now tone policing because you assumed my knowledge on a topic.

Knowing that they can keep him according to their bylaws does not change my opinion.

My point is your opinion is not useful in the conversation as it is not based in the facts of the matter. You are free to keep an ignorant point of view but it changes nothing.

I also gave you a better way to have that opinion heard. Join the CPC if you care so much.

And regardless of my power you seem to be talking down to me and dictating how I should act.

If you believe I am talking down to you that is your problem to solve. I am not dictating anything, I am simply telling you why your opinion based on nothing substantial is not important here.

I voiced my opinion you voiced your disagreement. You are now tone policing because you assumed my knowledge on a topic.

I never disagreed with you. I said your opinion isn’t worth anything in this conversation because it has no substance to back it up. Which is not “tone policing”.

I do hope this cleared things up for you.
