I want all the money I put in to be refunded in nonsequential bills, and give it to me in one of those fancy metal briefcases please.

There are two main points to getting a diagnosis:

    1. Access to mental health services and acomodations, which will often require “proof”. Up to you to decide if you need that.
    2. Getting “closure” and self-understanding. Which is what most “high functioning” adults are really looking for with a late diagnosis. That does not require your psychiatrist to write anything down though. In your position I’d explicitly ask for that.

Counter-point: RFK has access to your diagnosis.

Caveat; an ASD diagnosis probably won’t matter if you already have a history of treatment in another mental illness.

Take me, for instance; diagnosed ADHD at 16, refined diagnosis to ADHD-combined at 21. That was a decade ago, and I’ve been on stims and on/off other meds in the ensuing decade. If RFK gets his ‘detox’ camps I’m fucked either way, yet I’m still hesitant to pursue an on the record ASD diagnosis despite prompting by my doc.

Thankfully my passport arrived yesterday. Maybe I’ll ask for the official diagnosis once I’ve sorted out tickets and a visa…
