Image is of many Hamas soldiers supervising the handing over of Israeli hostages to cars heading out of the Gaza Strip.

After 15 months of genocide - and resistance to it - the Israeli regime realized that they could not win a military victory against Hamas, and were forced to sign a humiliating ceasefire in order to get their hostages returned.

With much of Syria under the control of Al-Qaeda, and an increasing level of covert infiltration into Lebanon, the crisis in the Middle East is not over, and we may still be in its beginning stages, as the center of hegemony continues its gradual shift away from the United States. Their navy, once considered the best in the world, is likely also not very happy about their ships and aircraft carriers being forced to retreat by Yemen, one of the poorest countries; and all eyes are on Iran, who has, over the last year and a half, demonstrated a newfound confidence and strength to directly strike Israel.

The recovery for Gaza will take, at a minimum, decades; it could indeed never fully recovery to even how it was before, considering it is not in Israel’s interests to see their concentration camps recover. But Hamas has proven to be steadfast and the tunnel network has proven its resilience, despite facing some of the most powerful conventional bombing in history. This shows that Palestine’s liberation is a when, not an if; and hopefully a much sooner “when” than expected before October 7th.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don’t want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it’s just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.

Donald Trump says he wants nuclear talks with China, Russia

“Tremendous amounts of money are being spent on nuclear, and the destructive capability is something that we don’t even want to talk about,” Trump told World Economic Forum attendees in Davos during a video address, while also stressing the war in Ukraine needed to end soon.

The president said he had pushed for nuclear arms cuts in his first term. “So we want to see if we can denuclearize, and I think that’s very possible. And I can tell you that President Putin wanted to do it. He and I wanted to do it. We had a good conversation with China, they would have been involved, and that would have been an unbelievable thing for the planet.”

Just so we’re on the same page - we’re 100% watching the start of american labor camps for illegal immigrants, right?

When do you’ll think we’ll get the first official facility? Will it be state run or private? Will it stem from prisons, due to that new law (accused of robbery in the last 10 years)?

Denmark Bows to US Demands, Ramps Up Military Spending

Denmark’s regime is turning a big dial that says “military spending” on it and constantly looking back towards Washington for approval like a contestant on the price is right.

Denmark’s Social Democrat-led regime has unveiled plans for another hike in military spending, promising “massive investments” that will “make a big dent” in the economy. Troels Lund Poulsen, head of the Liberal Party-controlled Ministry of Defence and party chairman, declared the need to “strengthen the bulwark,” though his bombast conceals the true aim: appeasing Washington and its erratic far-right supreme leader leader Donald Trump, rather than countering Russia.

Last year at his party’s congress, Poulsen demanded an additional DKK 300 billion by 2033, atop a DKK 200 billion boost already agreed upon. Now, without offering specifics, he hints at even greater spending, citing Arctic militarization as a necessity. Although he won’t be specific, Poulsen is promising Danes that “large and tough economic prioritizations” lies ahead.

Although the regime is invoking a non-specified Russian menace, this frenzy most likely stems from Trump’s obsession with Greenland and accusations that Denmark’s Arctic defences are inadequate to fend off Russia and China. Instead of resisting American pressure, Danish leaders mimic NATO’s calls for escalation, with Poulsen declaring the Arctic no longer a “low-tension area.”

    The “Will to victory”

Denmark’s political elite, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, remains blindly loyal to American demands. Frederiksen’s recent New Year’s speech, full of faux-folkish sentimental platitudes and celebrity name-dropping, stated that the world was getting more dangerous and reserved that “it would be expensive” before she called for the “will to victory” in response to the claimed Russian menace with no mention of diplomacy or alternatives to militarization. Meanwhile, state and corporate media dutifully amplifies the regime’s agenda, drowning out dissent and leaving the public convinced that the military buildup is necessary as public funds are funnelled into expensive American weapons, leaving schools, welfare, and the cost-of-living crisis unaddressed.

Critics within the political elite quibble over details rather than question the premise. Neoliberal and libertarian factions wants more details on the costing of the proposed spending and wants to wait for the American NATO pact to issue its dictates for Danish military capabilities before committing, but none challenge the militaristic fervor or suggest de-escalation.

    The Price of Subservience

With the American NATO pact’s figurehead recently demanding that American satellite states reserves 3.7% of GDP for the military and Trump’s ludicrous 5% target looming, Denmark appears eager to sacrifice its economy to imperialist ambitions. Poulsen openly acknowledges the “tough” sacrifices civilians must endure, prioritizing Arctic militarization over domestic welfare. Denmark’s leaders seem trapped in a delusional loyalty to Washington, leaving ordinary Danes to bear the cost of their fanatical Atlanticism.

Meeting coverage SC/15972 from yesterdays 9843rd meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Dialogue ‘Central Axis in Construction of Peace’ in Colombia, Special Representative Tells Security Council

Amid one of the deadliest waves of violence in Colombia since the signing of the 2016 Final Agreement for Ending the Conflict and Building a Stable and Lasting Peace, speakers in the Security Council today underscored the urgency of implementing the accord’s security guarantees.

Carlos Ruiz Massieu, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, said that the first days of 2025 have been marred by violence in the country. “I am deeply saddened by the actions that have bloodied the remote Catatumbo region of north-east Colombia since late last week, claiming dozens of lives,” he said. According to numerous reports, many of the victims were individually targeted and killed.

The bloodshed — the result of an attack by Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) in an area of presence of a rival armed group known as Estado Mayor de los Bloques y Frentes (EMBF) — is part of the ongoing confrontation between armed groups in various areas of the country with a limited State presence. The success of the Ministry of the Interior’s rapid response plan, aimed at accelerating the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement, will depend directly upon the availability of resources, he went on to say.

It is also critical to accelerate the implementation of the ethnic chapter of the Final Agreement, which focuses on the needs and protection of Colombia’s Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities. “The Bari and Yukpa are among the populations affected by the violence in Catatumbo,” he said. Moving forward, the gender provisions of the peace agreement will require adequate funding, proactive leadership and constant engagement with women’s organizations.

In the last six days alone, over 80 people have been killed in the Catatumbo region, 100 have been kidnapped and over 30,000 have been displaced, said Diego Tovar, Representative of the high contracting party to the Commission for the Follow-up, Promotion and Verification of the Implementation of the Final Agreement. He warned that the violence “threatens to spread to other regions”, with ethnic communities, women and children being among the most affected by the reconfiguration of the armed actors.

Also, he added, impunity continues to be extremely high for the assassination of former combatants, reaching 90 per cent. Some ex-combatants remain imprisoned after the signing of the Agreement and are waiting for the jurisdiction to generate prompt solutions to their cases. Eight years on, the reintegration process remains precarious. Its non-implementation and persistent violence led 80 per cent of former combatants to leave their territorial areas, he said, pointing to their “massive displacements” in 2023 and 2024.

Armando Wouriyu Valbuena, Secretary of the Special High-Level Body on Ethnic Peoples of Colombia, noted that ethnic peoples constitute 10 per cent of the Colombian population and occupy one third of national territory. “As such, we are environmental guardians for the rest of Colombians and the planet,” he stressed. He recalled that ethnic and Indigenous groups were the only stakeholders to conclude an agreement with the Colombian Government and the former Fuerza Alternativa Revolucionaria del Común (FARC), leading to the Ethnic Chapter — a first in the history of peace agreements to have an ethnic perspective. However, after eight years of implementation, that Chapter continues to be the most neglected, despite being intended to solve underdevelopment for communities of African descent and Indigenous communities.

Substantive improvement in the pace of implementation requires that the instances provided for in the Agreement must be activated by the various stakeholders in peace. The committee on follow-up and implementation monitoring is an inactive body, he noted — but has the potential to bring together representatives of the Colombian State and peace agreement signatories of the now-extinct FARC. Calling on the Government “to include us in the 16 national sectoral plans for comprehensive rural reform and development plans”, he noted that in the Catatumbo area, “former combatants and my brothers from the Bayou people are victims of displacement, and others of confinement” — further requesting that the National Commission enact security guarantees.

The Russian Air Force appears to be conducting preparations for another large scale air raid/long range air attack soon. Strategic bomber aircraft such as the Tu-95M (carries the Kh-101 long range cruise missile) and Tu-22M (carries the Kh-32/22 supersonic high altitude cruise missile) have been repositioned at Engels-2 airbase, and transport aircraft such as the IL-76 are making deliveries of presumably ordinance to these air bases. Russian MiG-31K aircraft (carries the Kinzhal ALBM) and the Su-57 stealth aircraft (carries the Kh-69 stealth cruise missile), along with the Black Sea Naval fleet (ships that launch Kalibr cruise missiles) are also conducting practice/training missions. Geran-2/Shahed-136 drone activity has also increased. All this activity has occurred in the last week or so. This is all indicative of a Russian strike happening soon, the only thing that’s missing is a Ukrainian/USA directly assisted ATACMS attack on Russian soil.

The sources for this information, as per usual, are compiled from Ukrainian and Russian air raid channels. AMK Mapping on Twitter and telegram does of good job of compiling these sources into English language posts.

Another thing to note is that there has been increased ballistic missile activity by Russia since the beginning of this year, with some videos of the strikes looking different to the typical Iskander-M strike. We already know that Russia has used the North Korean version of the Iskander, the Kn-23, in their strikes since January 2024. But could some of these new strikes be using other types of ballistic missiles, such as the North Korean KN-15, which was spotted in Russia last month, or even the rumoured Iranian ballistic missile deliveries of Fateh, Zoheir and Zulfiqar? That is a possibility which cannot be ruled out.

Anyone here have interesting sources on economic calculation, planned economy, and “cybernetic” planning? I’ve noticed these issues have been completely sidelined even by some leftwing communists, so I was interested in various perspectives. Also notice how far the “economic calculation problem” has slipped from the mainstream - the unquestioned process of “economy” is no longer just unquestioned, it is now completely unacknowledged. We have the “most advanced AI” but we do not dare to even think about tackling the economy. The economy exists outside the purview of even “AGI”.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says she will talk with Brazilian President Lula da Silva about a joint Latin American response to the expansionist policies of Donald Trump, who is threatening to seize the Panama Canal and is trying to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico. Asked about a joint statement in the face of Trump’s expansionist threats and new migration policy, Sheinbaum said there was “unity” in Latin America.

“I’ve had several phone calls in recent days, I’ve spoken to [Guatemalan President Bernardo] Arévalo, there was a meeting of the foreign ministers of different Latin American and Caribbean countries and in recent days we’re going to speak to President Lula,” Sheinbaum said at her daily press conference.
