Image is of many Hamas soldiers supervising the handing over of Israeli hostages to cars heading out of the Gaza Strip.

After 15 months of genocide - and resistance to it - the Israeli regime realized that they could not win a military victory against Hamas, and were forced to sign a humiliating ceasefire in order to get their hostages returned.

With much of Syria under the control of Al-Qaeda, and an increasing level of covert infiltration into Lebanon, the crisis in the Middle East is not over, and we may still be in its beginning stages, as the center of hegemony continues its gradual shift away from the United States. Their navy, once considered the best in the world, is likely also not very happy about their ships and aircraft carriers being forced to retreat by Yemen, one of the poorest countries; and all eyes are on Iran, who has, over the last year and a half, demonstrated a newfound confidence and strength to directly strike Israel.

The recovery for Gaza will take, at a minimum, decades; it could indeed never fully recovery to even how it was before, considering it is not in Israel’s interests to see their concentration camps recover. But Hamas has proven to be steadfast and the tunnel network has proven its resilience, despite facing some of the most powerful conventional bombing in history. This shows that Palestine’s liberation is a when, not an if; and hopefully a much sooner “when” than expected before October 7th.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says she will talk with Brazilian President Lula da Silva about a joint Latin American response to the expansionist policies of Donald Trump, who is threatening to seize the Panama Canal and is trying to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico. Asked about a joint statement in the face of Trump’s expansionist threats and new migration policy, Sheinbaum said there was “unity” in Latin America.

“I’ve had several phone calls in recent days, I’ve spoken to [Guatemalan President Bernardo] Arévalo, there was a meeting of the foreign ministers of different Latin American and Caribbean countries and in recent days we’re going to speak to President Lula,” Sheinbaum said at her daily press conference.

This is probably due to the border between Guatemala and Mexico, but I doubt that Arévalo can do anything serious to help even if he really wanted to. Claudia also spoke to Xiomara Castro and Gustavo Petro about this issue, since Xiomara will be handing over her position as leader of CELAC to Petro in March. We’ll see what Mexico, Colombia and Brazil do, but I think it’s good that they refused to recognize Edmundo Gonzalez, and sent diplomats to Maduro’s inauguration. But I still think they should have recognized Maduro’s re-election, I understand that Lula and Petro don’t have a majority in congress and that the media attack them daily for the most idiotic reasons, but at least Mexico could have recognized Maduro.

        Article in Spanish

        Article Translated

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced this Wednesday that she will call her counterpart from Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and affirmed that “there is unity” in Latin America in the face of Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

“I have several calls these days, I spoke with President (Bernardo) Arévalo (of Guatemala), there was a meeting of the foreign ministers of the different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, in these days we are going to speak with President Lula and there is unity in Latin America, that is important,” she said in her daily conference.

The Mexican ruler did not detail the topics she will discuss with Lula, but announced the call after being questioned by the press about Mexico’s communication with Latin America in the face of the new presidency of Donald Trump in the United States.

“I know that sometimes you want there to be a particular statement, but our fundamental objective is the welfare of the people of Mexico, that is the responsibility of the president, and of course we communicate with all the governments of the world and, particularly, of Latin America,” she replied.

Sheinbaum has affirmed that her government is “ready” to receive Mexicans deported from the United States, where they represent almost half of the nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants, but has announced that Mexico will return migrants affected by Trump’s restrictions to their countries of origin.

“We are working on it and at the same time we are in communication with Latin American governments and there are things in which we obviously do not agree, but our interest is the defense of Mexicans,” she said.

The President revealed that she has discussed the issue with her Honduran counterpart, Xiomara Castro, who in March will hand over the pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro.

The Mexican government has talked with other Latin American countries to directly receive migrants deported by the United States instead of expelling them first to Mexican territory. “I am focused with the team, obviously, in the interest of Mexico, then our interest is, obviously, the agreement with the United States on different issues, that there is already a communication, there are things in which we do not agree, but at this moment that is the essential interest,” Sheinbaum sentenced.
