I work in higher ed. I would say it’s “innocent until a professor who doesn’t understand what he’s doing runs it through his own ChatGPT and asks if it’s AI written, and then that’s going to be gospel.” So yeah we have software that tracks everything students write to avoid it.

I got caught up working on my old house this summer. Doing carpentry and electrical and a half dozen other things. Nothing digital, only hands. Now I can barely force myself to be near a screen, like it’s painful. I am sitting at work counting the seconds until I can go home at lunch and pull a couple of nails. But there’s no way doing that work would pay what I make for sitting a few hours a day on my ass, so those hours are just gone, to a fog.

How many of these folks have a rack mounted somewhere in there… once you get into this degree of tech, you’re looking at folks with PoE systems on battery backup, maybe 5G backup circuits in case the internet is cut. It’s really not a crazy level of security, if you live in a high crime downtown area for instance. But I also don’t go around whipping my rack out in every conversation, and my house is old, so lots of folks don’t know how high tech the house really is. And wouldn’t until they saw the doorbell still glowing, Wifi still on during a power outage I suppose (Wifi is how we really see each other during power outages, and the sound of gennies for those rich bastards that can afford them)

There were photos circulating for a day or two after the pool was drained, purporting to show tire marks, but later arial photos of the pool don’t seem to show anything so clearly. You can try it, it’s called being a happiness pump (in sociological terms), and it’s a fairly good way to go through life, but you’ll snap every so often and maybe kill a family or two. Like everything in life, it’s about finding the right balance for yourself.
