I think we all do that a bit, tbh. But when I get to the “rip it” stage I just put it in a timeout box instead, work on a new thing, then usually the desire to get back to the original thing will return eventually! If it really doesn’t I’ll also frog but that’s relatively rare.

Bonus of having so many craft hobbies I guess, there’s always some other WIP to switch focus to!

Yeah it’s the same sort of challenge and satisfaction at a solution, completely agree!

3d printing is useful for almost any hobby if you try hard enough!

We got really into making handmade dice for a while there, and used our resin printer to make custom master dice with our logo on. And I’ve used it to print out useful bits and bobs for cross stitch too. Someone I follow on Mastodon 3d printed a sock knitting machine, that was very cool.

Truly 3d printing is the hobby that keeps giving!

Making things, mostly.

Lots of crafts like knitting, crochet, cross stitch, sewing, felting, origami, faffing about with clay, etc etc. And gamedev which I basically think of as the same sort of hobby because it’s just making a different sort of thing.

Making YouTube videos about all of the above, in defiance of the algorithm gods.

Reading any and all scifi I can get my hands on, plus the Discworld series just over and over again endlessly on a loop.

Also the amount of time I spend on Mastodon and Lemmy probably means it counts as a rather lame hobby at this point…

Unfortunately that link doesn’t help much. Currently among the list of “recommended instances” (followed by a claim that it “doesn’t matter” which of these you choose) are a French-speaking instance, a crypto instance, and an anime instance. Hardly welcoming places for your average person, unless you happen to be a French crypto bro looking for porn in which case you are definitely well catered for.

OP might not have all the details worked out but their point is a good one, and it’s an issue on Mastodon as well. It’s all well and good having a one-liner description about each instance but it can be quite a trawl to find the actual important info you need to make a decision.

Settings > Blocks, instance blocks are at the bottom so if you already have a long block list you might have missed it down there.

A couple of the apps do have this “multi community” feature, if you’re a mobile user. Summit definitely does, Raccoon (the one I’m replying from now) technically does but it’s pretty broken so I’m hoping that gets looked at soon. And tbh maybe more of them do now, it’s been a while since I checked!

As a European, I’d read about this phenomenon and assumed it was just a sort of vaguely reminiscent hint of a taste. Because surely nobody would be eating it if it tasted strongly of vomit.

Was given a free sample of Hershey’s in Chicago once. Didn’t taste of anything at all it was just weird and waxy. So much for that!

Yeah I made it maybe halfway down the street before the taste kicked in. For any other non-US folks who think it’s an exaggeration, it is not. Literally tasted like I’d thrown up in my mouth, not just a bit like it but literally like vomit.

My minor life advice is do not accept handouts of Hershey’s chocolate!

I’ve not “used” it but for some reason they’ve decided to include one of my accounts in their gaming feed so I checked it out.

Just seemed like a too-broad-to-be-useful repost bot, although apparently there are real people “curating” too. Why they’d repost my inane ramblings if it’s actually human-curated, I do not know.

I do however know quite a few people who blocked them already since it just looks at first glance like complete spam. Like most Fedi stuff, they could probably do with communicating better what it is they’re actually trying to do.

Bit of a weird one, I use the default UI myself and haven’t had any issues with it. But maybe if you can post a pic it’ll help us figure out what’s going on?

The problem it solves is that typing on a phone is annoying, and that’s a problem every other app has too.

The “problem” of people not being able to find you if you give them your handle instead? Based on recent experience of a lot of non-techy friends signing up and finding and following me with literally no problems, I’m pretty sure that isn’t a thing.

Inconviently located chores for most of tomorrow, then a big family thing for my gran’s birthday on Sunday. Honestly not sure which day I’m looking forward to the least. Hoping to find room for some crafts and some videomaking at…some point in there somewhere? 🤷‍♀️

Someone from my old secondary school tried to organise one a few years ago. I figured it might be fun in a cheesy sort of way, even though the only people I’d want to see are the ones I’m still in touch with and would have been going with anyway, and I doubt I’d remember most others at all.

Unfortunately it clashed with an NFL London game I really wanted to go to, and that was always going to win out! No regrets.
