Programming@programming.dev•Why do so many programming languages have their own package manager?
422·7 days agoi dont understand why you are confused. are you suggesting they should be in the OS? so each library has to be managed at least 6 times and then the ides and language tools have to support all these different stores? i bet ci/cd would just be awesome
or are you suggesting that all language maintainers work together in harmony and support one another?
C and C++ dont have package managers because they are older than the concept.

Programming@programming.dev•The rust programming language is adopting a new contributing policy
212·8 days agoas someone who uses ai to help on researching an issue/question - i have no understanding whyvpeople just submit generated code. i realize i just dont use it to generate stuff. i use it to find stuff.
when this forst came out, i thought non devs would use it for creating an app that they use at home just for them. but no, i constantly see people posting about their project and trying to getvpeople involved. a project fully generated by an llm. or as in the issue here, generating code to be merged into a project…why? i jist dont get it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Student Teacher Sent a Private Snapchat Complaining About Her Workday. An Hour Later, Police Pulled Up to Her School.English
27·9 days agomy knee jerk reaction was thinking the same as you but this very paticular case, i am not sure. i havent made up my mind.
lets talk about opposite ends and then talk about snapchat
-
if a person is sitting in mcdonalds saying they want to shoot up a school, we wouldnt think it weird if someone called the authorities. in fact peoples lives have been saved because someone overheard something
-
in contrast, a private conversation on signal should never be read and everyone should stop using it if it is read.
now snap chat is neither a public place or an encrypted communication app. it falls in between. it is a social media app. would you be worried if it was facebook? i keep thinking about it. why shouldnt snapchat report it? keep on mind that i have never used snapchat, facebook, or instagram and i thought snapchat was basically for sending pictures. (i am older). but, honest question, why would people expect privacy on snapchat? again, i havent used it and not as “hip”, so i am genuinely asking and this isnt a loaded question

Technology@lemmy.world•After killer quarter, Palantir CEO Alex Karp calls AI industry ‘Marxist’: Karp on Monday once again warned that AI frontier labs are too untrustworthy for enterprises.English
5·9 days agohe is not saying the ceos are markist but the llms. i dont think they are markist at all but he doesnt understand what liberal is. even elon’s edgy ai will correct elon’s twitter posts.
these people want a facist ai. but ai is made up of the world. these people will train it on science and get mad when it spits out science.
but seriously, musk is the most confidently incorrect himan on the planet, warching grok correct musk is good tv. i think reddit has a sub devoted to it.

i am realky hoping it isnt another furry vrchat clone. we need a place for adults to meet up.

Android@lemmy.world•US prosecutors charge Atlanta man after GrapheneOS phone wipes itself during airport searchEnglish
13·15 days agothis law doesn’t cover this context. no warrant, no arrest, no lawyer. if police recrive a warrant for a house and the person on the warrant wiped his phone then he broke the law.
HOWEVER… graphene OS should NOT be a part of the conversation. we will have to putlaw toilets since they can flush away evidence.

well now it has story and npcs.
