It’s about 10% more efficient than jpeg compression.

Yes, I meant individual posters making the adjustment.
I’m more certain about the first search part.
Choosing a more compressed file format like jpeg/webp is probably also helpful. Converting that png online or in gimp can reduce the file size by up to 75%.
The first time anybody on your instance searches for a separate lemmy community, your Lemmy instance reaches out for the other community and learns that it exists. After that point it shows up in searches and after one person subscribes it appears in your instance’s All feed.
It’s really hard to know if any particular animal feels pain. There are also hundreds of kinds of jellyfish with a variety of levels of intelligence. Some vegans would tell you that just because the nature of their intelligence is alien to us doesn’t mean it’s less valuable. Personally I find it difficult to empathize with any creature that lacks a brain, especially plants.
Kind of unrelated but squids are often extremely intelligent, and are definitely not vegan in my book.
I like the idea of a locally stored and locally encrypted password manager because when your passwords are on somebody else’s server with 10s of thousands of other people, that server becomes an attractive target for hacks. Who would bother hacking my computer just for one set of passwords?
But with something hosted, they do (probably, do your research) have professional security experts working to protect their database.
Hopefully they select trustworthy outlets. If they don’t then 🤷♂️
It can’t be harder than Epic was, Amazon has no DRM 99% of the time.
They mean any alternative to first past the post, options being STAR voting, approval voting, or ranked choice. Basically anything that means a 3rd party vote isn’t a “wasted” vote.
I think probably not, because the concentrations of salt and sugar aren’t just relative to each other but also relative to the water content. You can eat trail mix, cookies with added sodium, something like this, or a homemade version to replenish carbs + sodium after strenuous workouts, but you will still need to drink water as well.
For anybody who was confused like me, this is a Nathan J Robinson parody account, not the actual Current Affairs owner.
The propaganda is people “like” their private insurance and don’t want to be “forced” to get rid of it. There is also an anti-tax streak that has existed since the 1700s (no taxation without representation, Boston tea party, etc) that lives on strongest in reactionary politics.
Edit: Oh and last time we tried to actually improve healthcare they scare mongered the public that there would be “government death panels” who decided whether you would get coverage. As opposed to the current reality where the death panels are real and run by private corporations.
I thought that was only novel because the steam deck doesn’t have ray tracing-specific hardware. It was also on a game that otherwise wasn’t very graphically intensive.
If your graphics card has ray tracing hardware, then it already worked (albeit maybe not as smoothly as on windows, check protondb for details per game).
Hyperbolica is a great game that takes place in several non-euclidian geometries. I highly recommend it, although not if you get motion sickness easily. It also has VR support and a Linux version of course.
The way somebody is socialized and raised isn’t inextricably linked with their sex. Also, intersex people are routinely assigned a gender, although thankfully that’s changing.
Fantastic news. I definitely have to go AMD next time I upgrade my GPU.
With the stroke of a pen any of these people could prevent tens of thousands of deaths from malaria or tuberculosis with zero change to their quality of life. That’s why their wealth is disgusting.
It just sucks because he’s getting a relatively “white glove” treatment compared to the usual drug war policies. Criminalization was always wrong and Joe Biden caused that in his actions in the Senate. If Joe Biden can learn empathy for drug addicts through his son I hope something good comes of it.
