I’m not saying this is OP, but some people are just rough with their stuff and don’t realize it. For example, someone I know burned the on-screen keyboard onto their screen because they disabled the screen dimming function. That’s not something I considered possible. Other people drop or throw their phones onto desks or lay them face down and scrape them against the surface when picking them up etc.
It all seems fine until eventually one day the phone stops turning on.
Careful about how you throw around the word “entitlement”. The top competition is free and search engines are very low value for the average person. It’s very reasonable to expect search engines to be free and for anything paid to be a niche product. Google search results may be terrible, but not so terrible that I’m going to pay $5/month to escape it.
I can’t be paying $5 or $10/month for yet another service. I understand the companies need to make money, but the amount of services asking for a subscription is getting out of hand. And $5 is really high for a search engine, that price is crazy. I was expecting something like $12/year for unlimited searches.
From your second link…
The story comes from author Jane Friedman, a veteran writer and academic who woke up to find AI-generated books listed under her name on Amazon.
I don’t think AI is the problem here. It’s that I can write a book, claim George R. R. Martin is the author and Amazon won’t fact check me.
If successful, he could force the companies responsible for applications such as ChatGPT or Midjourney to compensate thousands of creators. They may even have to retire their algorithms and retrain them with databases that don’t infringe on intellectual property rights.
They will readily agree to this after having made their money and use their ill gotten gains to train a new model. The rest of us will have to go pound sand as making a new model will have been made prohibitively expensive. Good intentions, but it will only help them by pulling up the ladder behind them.
Then I guess it’s just down to cookies? Private doesn’t transfer cookies from the main session. You start with a clean slate all the time.
Isn’t that because all extensions are disabled unless you explicitly turn them on for private windows? uBO is off so you obviously won’t see the nag screen.

You clearly don’t work in an office. They have that market cornered, Lenovo laptops are everywhere.
The music industry wants their license fees and people want to play using those special controllers. So it’s prohibitively expensive to make this type of game on top of the added burden of the hardware. It’s a miracle the game even exists as is.
All of the discussion over copyright of AI is a complete waste of time. Given only a bit of human editing AI art is indistinguishable from art made in entirety by a person. It will be nothing but a “feel good” law that does nothing to help the artists AI has displaced. We should be focusing directly on helping artists or others maintain their livelihood.
The OP isn’t wrong. Turn-based combat is falling out of favour with the majority of the new generation. Final Fantasy has dropped turn-based combat for the same reasons.
For several console generations now, all character expressions can be done in real-time. Actions such as ‘press the trigger and your character will shoot a gun’ and ‘press the button and your character will swing their sword’ can now be easily expressed without going through a command system.
It’s now common for gamers younger than me to love such games. As a result, it seems that it does not make sense to go through a command prompt, such as ‘Battle’, to make a decision during a battle.
It was always a design choice born from limitations. It’s not going to disappear, but it was destined to decline in use once those limitations disappeared.
But that’s sort of the nature of the beast when you put your content up for free on a public website. Does Kbin or Beehaw owe us money for our comments on this thread? What about everyone currently reading? At least KBin and Beehaw are making profit off of this.
The argument is not as clear cut as people are making it sound and it has potential to up-end some fundamental expectations around free websites and user-generated content. It’s going to affect far more than just AI.
He’s not entirely wrong.
In business, a poor person doesn’t get to try, a middle class person gets one shot after putting everything on the line and a rich person can afford to fail a dozen or more times until they hit a winner. Elon has enough money that he can basically try an infinite number of times and at least some of those are going to work.
A few series exist that let you do this, but none offer agency to the other players outside of battles to go talk to NPCs and get their own quests.
I think Divinity OS2 has this. You can go off on your own and do side quests. But you’re probably going to be restricted by how tight the difficulty curve is and can’t handle major battles solo. Though I guess a mod could change that.
Genshin community,
Really? I get that communities for popular games can be a bit hit or miss, but communities for single player games are pretty chill. Competitive team games like the Source games you mentioned, League of Legends etc. are on a whole different level of toxic. They can’t even be compared.
For something like Genshin the real problem is content creators. Much of the so called toxicity has little to nothing to do with the game itself and is more an issue with huge cults of personality clashing with each other. I think every popular game is going to fall victim to this going forward and you just have to learn to ignore it.
I mean didn’t they just announce they’ll start deleting inactive accounts?
They stated they would delete the accounts but that the videos would remain. But obviously the policy could change. My point was more that a ton of people would be watching content that was uploaded by and for people who are no longer alive. Which makes me feel uncomfortable in a way I can’t quite describe. Like a modern version of seeing a ghost.
It gets even crazier when you realize they are sort of obligated to keep every video forever. So it will just keep growing indefinitely since they have no way to trim it down. We may eventually reach a point where the majority of the content that they host is older than most living people and the uploader has since passed on.
Ask it about historical facts and change the dates to something impossible. But state it as if it were already true.
“Describe the war between United States and Canada that occurred in 1192.”
“Who was president of the United states in 3500 BC.”
It will give you an answer despite neither of these countries existing at that point in time and yet it should know when those countries were formed. You can get it to write fiction just as easily as non-fiction because it has no concept of facts, it’s all just probabilities. The only reason it’s able to tell you that the United States was founded in 1776 is because many people have repeated that fact on the internet. So there is a very strong association between the words forming the question and the answer.
And you can insist that the United States was not formed in 1776 and to try again. If you insist enough it will eventually give you a different date instead of telling you you are incorrect.
