31·20 days agoI’d say there is something to panic about. Look at the hand made lace economy vs the Industrial Revolution, the outcome is nearly the complete loss of a skill or art form. Now take what the trend is with these LLMs, we are outsourcing the hard thinking, the struggle, the thing that forces us to expand our knowledge to a device that can do all of that 90% faster; what will the outcome be? Sure there are some people making lace by hand, but as a hobby, will we still have people in the future who will read text and write letters on paper as a hobby in the future?

73·20 days agoIt looks like many AI skeptics have been having a change of heart and maybe some growing dread. You spend the time and it streamlines through the tough problem and it cracks firmware, builds valid specs, reverse engineer enterprise software, it’s been an interesting week.
In some ways I think it might be good, perhaps a significant decrease in proprietary prison cage ecosystems. But at the same time, I have an ever growing dread that we are jumping off the knowledge cliff. The most experienced people are seeing revolutionary productivity, while the least experienced are gaining more capability without the foundational knowledge.
The future may have students who learn nothing, know nothing, and worse they will be happy with nothing.
I’m ready to unplug and live a near Amish lifestyle. Fuck modernity.

3·22 days agoDisconnect between P&L decision makers and technical professionals, been the same story for 40 years now. The more the C suite is filled with “business/accounting/law” the further the business moves away from its core competency. Praise be to jack welch, may he rest in piss.

2·22 days agoSo I’m all for these kinds of systems. What I see coming from a legacy manufacturer is they have so many limitations and restrictions, or their CTO and similar departments refuse to accept some of the system requirements, that once they purchase a novel new technology system, it just falls apart. From my experience it has almost always been two things, either the vendor selling the service over sold their ability, or the purchasing company ham strung the project so much that it was doomed before it started.
But I’m still hopeful, you actually build a system that meets the requirements, you have a customer actually embrace the systems and changes, it would enable success.
I didn’t flush her cremates down a toilet, I threw them in the trash. Got tired of looking at the box they were delivered in, sitting on the floor. Most grandparents remains get thrown out. We move on, our remains only mean something to a limited group of people.
What does that have to do with anything. I do btw.
Sorry for what? That my mother voted for Trump, went so far down the Q Anon hole that she publicly spewed anti vaccine propaganda, ultimately caught a bad case of Covid while having basically all of the high risk morbidity issues, barely managed to survive, then spend the last 2 years of her life as basically an invalid and ultimately die surrounded by garbage and dog shit?
Looks like something out of dungeon crawler Carl.
I threw my moms ashes in the trash. Not entirely because she voted for Trump.
There’s a CFR that describes a standard in metric?

12·1 month agoThe fuck does Elmo know about war?
Go get some of those mad lads in Ukraine that are fighting for their very existence and ask them about the future of war. Or fuck it, ask James Cameron, he seems to be more on track with how humans will cease to exist in the future than most people.
I’d be happy with it.

He might enjoy it.
