I (a man in his 40s) pronounced Lathe wrong the other day in a meeting when referencing the le Guin story “the lathe of heaven”. Someone privately messaged me after to say “great book. BTW, it’s pronounced…”

That sounds like something out of Idiocracy. Just… it can’t all be highlights. Some things need to build!

I’ve encountered a surprising amount of seemingly intelligent, successful, people recently who of their own admission don’t read books. They just watch short videos, maybe a movie, and read social media.

I’m not a researcher but I expect that their vocabulary is stunted as a result.

But they’re so weirdly proud about it. Like a defiant 12 year old who doesn’t want to do his homework.

Once again, conservatives believe in hierarchy. Separate rules for separate people. That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

They don’t see “the congress guy gets paid leave and the bartender does not” as contradictory. They see that as the rule of hierarchy being applied consistently and fairly.

Like, imagine if someone told you your alphabetically sorted bookcase was wrong because you had the colors all mixed up. The worldview they’re applying doesn’t even intersect with more typical ideas about fairness.

I think a lot about a woman I used to know who adamantly refused to look up words she didn’t know. If she couldn’t figure it out from context, that’s just what it was.

She had some weird beliefs. Also the worst DND player I’ve ever had, I think.

That and some people take excessive resources, and some people are willing to back them up in exchange for table scraps.

Some people are just… not okay. Something in them in broken. Perhaps it could be fixed, but we live in the bad place.

This is how conservatives operate. The wealthy want more wealth and don’t care who gets hurt. Their bootlickers are drunk on authoritarianism, and get off on bowing to their superiors and kicking the people under them. There’s something wrong with the bootlickers brains. You’d probably be an asshole, too, if you came every time you bowed down to a rich man or hurt someone poorer than you.

I thought the CEO was shot in the back. If we want to be scientific about it, we’d need data about them being shot in the face, too.

I don’t think it’s going to stop until like armed people show up at the scraper’s homes. But I doubt the state would send the police for something like this, because there’s not enough money at stake.

Trying to date someone who’s not interested in me sounds miserable.

Dating someone that I’m not into sounds cruel to them. Unless it’s clearly a, like, casual or otherwise non-invested situation, and they’re aware, but that also sounds hazardous.

My cat will go under the blankets in bed when it’s cold out. He figured this out after many years of living here. Some nights it still takes him a while to figure it out. He’ll jump on the bed. I’ll lift the blankets. He’ll peer under there like he’s never seen this scenario before in his life. After several cautious minutes he’ll usually settle down. If I try to speed up the process by putting the blankets on him, he’ll run out of the room

They won’t learn. They can’t learn. Their ego is too fragile and too wrapped up in disinformation and nonsense. Accepting that conservative policies are bad actually would break their shitty little minds.

Conservatives are incapable of good government. They don’t believe in it. They don’t understand it. They’re shitty people.

Conservatives will say anything to align with the in-group, to hurt the outgroup, or for personal power. They have no internal beliefs beyond those.

Any text based platform is not going to be representative. Many people don’t read well, and don’t have the ability to communicate well in writing.

They want hierarchy. A king, nobles, and an underclass. They don’t care if they’re on top, just so long as someone is below them.

Yeah, the Senate is a bad idea. If the US was a collection of little sovereign states mostly independent maybe it would make sense. But it’s not.

Get rid of the Senate. Add more seats to the house.

Get rid of lifetime appointments of supreme court justices. Pull them up from lower courts to hear cases, then send them back.
