Mostly. None of the browser extensions work on Windows, which is really annoying.

Unfortunately, the lack of Japanese input makes it a total non-starter for my use case so I had to go crawling back.
Ack, I also need that. Oof. Guess I’ll have to keep looking.
There are exploits out there either kept secret by malicious/proprietary parties, or not practical for consumer desires to get a proper rooted experience.
Pretty much the only method to fix it if you’re affected that I can think of is to factory reset your phone with a manufacturer provided image, and even then it’s not 100% guaranteed if the bootloader is compromised.
It kinda did survive. KaiOS is forked from Firefox OS, though it’s more designed for Kinda-Smart feature phones in developing countries.
You can probably just disable auto updates for Android Auto and the apps you use with it, but inevitably things will start breaking, like Play Services APIs that Android Auto relies on, or the APIs those older third-party apps you use rely on.
It sucks, but it was kinda inevitable for a system that has so many moving parts.
Not until they actually ship it.
Amazingly, Valve actually fought off the scalpers. At least in the US. 6 hours later and everything seems to still be in stock, including the LE. It’s still a rough ride ordering though, with 502 errors constantly.
Same. I was prepared to hold off on getting an OLED if I couldn’t grab an LE, but after 45 minutes of hell I finally managed to get my order in.
Valve employees have confirmed that the OLED display is incompatible with the LCD Deck’s Mobo. So you can’t upgrade just the screen.
Yeah, speculation is that it’s a limitation by the display supplier.
This made me just realize that I turned off Notifications for the Amazon app at some point and never noticed. 😂
I’ve just been relying on their emails for getting updates on my orders.
I’m 65535 years old, and you can’t prove otherwise!
I switch to Desktop mode, change the power settings to have the screen turn off, but disable auto-sleep, and then just let the Desktop Steam download the updates.
Personally, I left my laptop behind, and just brought my Steam Deck and eInk tablet, along with a Bluetooth keyboard. I was able to get most of my light work done on the Steam Deck, and remoted into my home PC for a couple things I needed Windows for, or when transferring a large file over hotel WiFi didn’t make much sense when I could just work on it remotely and leave it on my PC and NAS back home.
Though admittedly my trip was a personal trip. If you were on a work trip and needed to present something or do some serious photo or video editing, I can understand needing the laptop.
Your router’s firewall only blocks access to unauthorized ports. If your device is talking to the Internet, then that device is exposed to that connection. Your router’s firewall does not prevent your device from using an outdated and exploitable software on the Internet.
Theoretical example, your device is stuck using an old web browser for whatever reason, that browser does not have a recent patch for an exploit involving loading infected pictures. You use that device to load a website with those infected pictures and your device loads malware because of that. Now your device could become a conduit for somebody to tunnel into your home network and look for any other things to exploit, whether those devices connect to the Internet themselves or not.
Obviously, you can often update web browsers on older devices, use a fork specifically designed for older devices, etc. But there are oversights. Old Android versions can’t update Webview outside of OS updates. Webview is what apps use to load web pages inside the app, and if you’re using an old app, which uses the old Webview, to load a webpage that the owner abandoned and has been taken over by a malicious third-party, your device could be exploited just by that app loading that webpage without you meaning to.
It would probably involve needing to make a custom firmware for the controller in order to redirect it to a different server, and to reimplement its Wifi pairing.
Xitter
LOL, my brain read that as “shitter” and I found that pretty fitting.
At this point I just let Android copy whatever, as long as it contains what I want, and then I use the clipboard edit tool that pops up to delete everything I don’t want. Extra steps, but way less fiddly.
If they’re still working on ROG Phones, then they’ll still have the software engineers to put out software updates for the Zenfones.
It does suck that they seem to be killing the Zenfone line right when it got really good though.
And this is why releaser gap should by wider than sustenance is tall.
