I’ve turned down few job offers in my time because those would have me work on online gambling systems and shit.
I know people who still chose to work in there, whose motivation was something like “If I didn’t scam these people - someone else would have”. And what I think after all that - if person’s job is detrimental to society - this person doesn’t matter, even if they’re working hard, 9-to-5, all that shit.
Some artistic works age badly and I think it’s okay. It becomes a problem if artist themselves is aging badly and doubling down on things that could definitely be better about their works.
Considering overall economic and political situation of Russia, someone from there who can just casually afford/allow themselves a vacation in Europe and then come back, is almost certainly a person one should not let in. 🌝
“Proxy war” take is literally just Russian propaganda meant to deprive Ukraine of agency in eyes of whoever that bullshit is targeted at.

And that is just natural continuation of Russian attitudes since early 90’s, with first Yeltsin blabbing “they will all come crawling back”, while negotiating Russian military presence in Crimea, and then putin lamenting loss of Ukraine and Kazakhstan in early 2000’s. For Russians it’s simply inconceivable that colony would just break away given the chance, it must be someone else pulling the strings.
Russians know that nobody wants WW3, and they don’t want it too, actually. But they’re willing to exploit Western cautiousness on that matter - that’s why possibility of “limited incursions” has been brought up quite a few times recently, where they’ll just start chipping pieces of their neighbours, small enough for Russian friends like US to prevent organised collective defense answers.
These Romans were selfish assoles, for sure. Imagine writing massive encyclopaedias, detailing how people saw the world at the time, to only read them at family gatherings in best case, or just have them hidden away and eventually burned.

Business goes bust or big bosses decide specific location doesn’t bring enough value for shareholders - workers chip in and buy facility out. At least how it worked in, for example, Argentina.

There’s a word Ukrainians use to describe such news outlets as Euronews - «помийка» (AFAIK calque from Russian, and is mainly used to describe Russian propaganda outlets, literal meaning is big dirty pile of trash). And it’s incredibly hilarious that this pile of shit happened to be at odds with Lukaşescu’s regime.

AI with its promises of things getting better and “love bombing” and other stuff rather looks like long forgotten classmate adding you on socials to get you into some MLM.
It’s not some closed community that cults usually are, there are almost no secrets to how AI works, or at least there are no claims that people in there know something most people don’t (which is characteristic to quasi-religious movements like MAGA).
It’s simply a big shiny new tech, that is on the height of its hype cycle, that is about to plunge into a valley of despair, which will filter out AI use cases, leaving actually legitimate ones and removing bullshit ones (and since there are so many of bullshit ones - that makes a bubble out of it).
I’ve definitely had periods of depression food, but the one time I had to spend first half of day on white throne and be scared to fart for second half of day was after going to a fancy restaurant. 🌝
Considering from where the bubble grows, my wisest guess as to when it will start showing cracks (and I’m not very wise, by the way) would be Republicans doing bad at next elections.
As of now it seems that any losses from AI industry would simply be tanked (Nvidia’s capitalization, for example, still ain’t a joke, they’ve got a lot of money to burn) or socialized. Little bits of regulations or opposition to socializing of losses may actually move the loss needle beyond pain point, where we can hope for panic to ensue.
If bubble pops - AI is here to stay anyway. Chinese have shown with their DeepSeek that you can run decent sized models locally, and the main gatekeeper of local AI is, you guessed it, Nvidia. Prices for server GPU’s are disproportionately high and one of the reasons is to not allow plebs like us to have that. But with further optimization of AI models they’ll become more and more accessible on hardware consumers already have.
My second guess of when though would be investors getting tired of AGI promises as it is AGI that has to magically turn money pit of AI into unprecedented profits.

I love how there’s this hustle culture among white collars where everything must scream productivity and success. And then everything they do doesn’t matter without engineers and hands-on specialists working with actual products and services.
And if these latter people are like me - then it’s the “yeah, I’ll be done when I’m done, don’t fucking rush me” approach.
If you’re asking seriously - then it’s because you’ll stink up the microwave itself, the kitchen and maybe even more.
Fish specifically contains fats and oils that are going to be boiled from microwaving and sprayed into the environment as result, making everyone’s day much worse.
Knowing some small local business owners I’d say that the problem is that the business reflects the owner’s personality - so you can have a place that respects both its customers and employees or a shithole owned by person too high up their own arse, which is often the case with IT firms.
Made a mistake of working at one, with owners boasting “we were the first ones to do X thing in our market”, whilst the office was a musty basement in middle of nowhere.
Nowadays if I know that certain business is owned by person or group of people I don’t like (be that due to their personal values or affiliations with certain politicians or whatever) I make sure to avoid supporting that business and I spread the message to friends and colleagues.
