I’ve definitely been going 10 mph in city, signaled to turn, tried to slow down, and just coasted past my turn because that’s how fresh snow over ice behaves. That’s with traction control and ABS.
I’m a systems librarian in an academic library. I moved over the Lemmy after Rexxit 2023. I’ve had an account on sdf.org since 2009 (under a different username), and so I chose this instance out of a sense of nostalgia. I do all sorts of fiber arts (knitting, cross stitch, sewing) and love dogs.

USB hand warmers are your friend. Layers of clothing, so you can get less dressed once you get where you’re going. If you drive in the snow, pretend your brakes have been cut and so you need much more stopping distance. Gloves that have capacitive finger tips so you can use your phone while wearing them are awesome. Walk like a penguin (shuffle feet, short steps center of balance always above your feet) on ice, so you don’t slip and fall. Snow is reflective, like the ocean, so sunglasses are nice in winter.
It’s 4-wheel drive, not 4-wheel stop. (Ok, technically brakes can be on each wheel, but that still won’t help in sufficient lack-of-friction)
I’ve read that story, too. Still might be bullshit, but who would tell false story about sex on the Internet?
Edit: found it, or at least an example
I associate it with trying to bring Christ into politics. For example, see this group’s mission statement.. I’ve not dug into it much more than that, just enough to know it’s currently a right-wing whistle and I ought to avoid anyone currently enamored with it. My local church only started displaying it after Justice Alito’s wife caused a stir by flying it.
A church near me has an Appeal to Heaven flag. It creeps me out.
Both as a student and as someone that works at a university, it’s always felt that the university police are more understanding of students/young people than the town police. They’re more likely to refer you to student services or explain why you should have reported backing into a car in the parking lot before heading off to class, instead of giving you a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident or arresting you for doing drugs in the library.
The closest I’ve ever been to a bar fight was while checking in to a hotel in Ohio.
My 7th grade algebra teacher would be annoyed that you didn’t show your work, step by step.
I was just as alert after the first 3 alerts as after the 8th. The additional alerts didn’t tell me anything new, they just gave me alarm fatigue.
And yes, it was bad. Roads were flooded. Buildings were flooded. People were evacuated. People died.
I finally went in and did this a couple weeks ago. We were under flash flood advisory and every time the end timestamp was updated, we got another “severe” alert. I didn’t need 8 very loud alerts going off over the course of a quiet evening at home.
My aunt got me a “Helinox sunset chair” recently and I love it. Pricey, wouldn’t have bought it for myself, but it weighs nothing and it’s comfy.
And some of us can’t get back to sleep easily if we turn on the big light at 3 am.
Not having to wait 45 business days to get your out-of-network claims reimbursed just for your insurance to tell you they never got the claim and please resubmit. Which I’ve done. At the end of September it will be another 45 business days. This is for a weekly therapy that I expect to be covered 80% because it’s out of network but maybe it isn’t because fuck me and I won’t know until I’ve been going for at least 15 weeks.
We debated diapers for after my partner’s colonoscopy, because we weren’t sure what to expect. We decided against them, but he did sit on a puppy pee pad the rest of the day.

Some people do use “it” as their pronouns. (I’ve been shopping for pronoun pins, there’s a market for “it” pronoun pins, but it isn’t one of the Big 3.)
Do you have pronouns folks should use when referring to you, or should folks just use your screen name?
I used to have garlic chives in my herb garden, before I moved. It’s handy being able to just go outside and snip up some oniony goodness for soup or what-have-you.
