A bigger, stronger man doesn’t need a gun to oppress someone smaller and weaker than them. You’re just ensuring the imbalance is permanent if you magically made effective weapons dissapear. But maybe that’s what you want deep down.

It is absolutely insane listening to people in this thread talk about how the same people that rape girls on islands in all these countries political class should take total control of our ability to arm ourselves. It is either wicked evil or bottom of the barrel stupidity.
Lol trying to take away a womans only practical, effective option to repel a man who wants to rape her, I don’t know if you realize this, but if you snapped your fingers and guns dissapeared, women would be more fucked, not less. Try stopping a 250 pound man with a knife or no weapon at all with a puny little 120 pound body. Good luck. Firearms are the great equalizer.

Technology@lemmy.world•When No ID Means No Internet: Age Verification and the Right to Access InformationEnglish
6·10 days agoIt’s very telling that these “humanitarian” globalist groups consider people not having documents and papers some problem that needs to be solved when it’s really just about their desire for total control and domination. People are not meant to be tied to certificates and IDs and the idea that they are is born from an absolute lust for control by the ‘system managers’ and nothing more.

61·1 month agoNo it won’t be all tech, that’s just giving into FUD. People run servers out of their house, people write software. People used to use websites Joe Shmoe wrote and ran in his basement. If you choose to use things like meta and google it is exactly that, a choice. Tor network, I2P network, Gnutella, freenet, usenet, torrenting, these are and always will be options unless the entire internet infrastructure is burned to the ground.

Honestly the biggest things are don’t run shit as root and don’t expose port 22. Especially don’t run things you downloaded from some website as root but in general just don’t run things as root. That’ll handle most problems that are likely to arise.

2·2 months agoMost people that think that way or any similar way are responding to something real, but their response goes in the wrong direction. That is why open discourse and being open and honest with people is the most important path to take. People are generally reasonable if you approach with sincerity of heart. The idea that you’ll save the world with sudden unprokoved violence and anger is more misguided than the person who simply holds misguided beliefs. Part of the journey of personal growth is figuring that out.
The issue is the phone is (almost always) always on and you cannot inspect things like you could with a PC. You can’t list processes and read through them, there’s no syslog or kernel log on most phones that you’re allowed to view, it’s a much bigger pain to reinstall than a PC is, there are a lot of things that make it an easier target. I would have a much much easier time figuring out my PC is compromised than figuring out my phone is compromised

4·2 months agoIt’s fundamentally unenforceable, even if they tried to do what they’ve done to phones and not allow other OS’s to be installed, you could still get development boxes, embedded boxes, etc that by nature of being what they are could not have locked boot loaders.

I understand the purpose of it, but if you are using your phone in a smart manner (you shouldn’t use a cell phone for genuinely urgently serious things just for bare minimum) then it’s not a huge deal. The biggest thing it will help with is things in the realm of Pegasus spyware that will use memory corruption bugs that gain arbitrary system access. If you do not use the phone for things you should already (even with GOS) NOT be using a cell phone for, you will be fine.
Tor is a military project so it’s like saying water is wet. There are lots of other options.
Gun death is a made up term, there is no practical difference when people get shot to death, stabbed to death, strangled to death, bludgeoned to death. Your obsession with a single particular weapon in extremely unhealthy and points to other issues. People are killed with anything that can be used as a weapon. Acting like you have authority over someone who arms themselves for protection because your family experienced rape is like telling a holocaust victim it was better for them to comply and be murdered in a chamber than having had the chance to fight back because my grandmother got SA’d? You make no sense, the software that has been downloaded into your brain needs a rewrite
