  • But then how can we monitize our gamers if we can’t run at the kernel level and do whatever we want?

We’re selling games at an overpriced rate and putting tons of gambling and Mtx in our games. But this is unsustainable. We’ll go bankrupt at this rate! Just last week we had a meeting with the CEO complaining he couldn’t buy his fifth luxury boat because he had spent that years bonus on his 2nd aircraft. He said heads might start to roll at this rate to keep the company float. Where are we supposed to find the money to index 5% on the wages.

    Some upper manager somewhere. Probably

  • Its a plague in online games. If its anything like real life I assume that people just get a kick out of doing it and getting away with it. Stomping people and being elitist about it. I guess that’s the reason why people smurf too.

Like a rich kid feeling better than the rest because dad=rich and your dad is not.

People can do whatever they want in single player games. Run with infinite ammo, god mode, flying, unlock all skills at lvl 1, increase stats/or resources on demand. I dont care. Maybe it takes the edge off or maybe they want to go through the campaign story without all the grinding after a long day at work or school.

I’m not complaining. I won’t lose any sleep over it. If it fulfills your power fantasy or whatever. Go for it. You’re not hurting anyone.

But the people who cheat in online games can piss right off. They’re ruining of for everyone on multiple levels ( kernel AC, online enjoyment, … ).

I recently saw a documentary clip on how people cheat nowadays with arduinos and PIs to circumvent kernel anti cheat and stuff. It was fucking depressing.

If you get joy from ruining other people their day you need to go outside, touch some grass and contemplate your life’s choices.

The same goes for smurfs. If you want to stomp on something then go stomp on very easy bots while they aren’t sentient yet.

  • In many places WhatsApp is the defacto standard unfortunately…

If its not that its something like Viber, or badoo or telegram or some other nightmare service…

If you have kids there is also not really getting away from it. Friends of mine have never had Facebook accounts until they had kids because the local football team or boyscout or whatever only uses Facebook to communicate…

I agree you can live your life comfortably without meta services, but sometimes, like in the example above, you dont have any alternatives…

You can’t keep harassing other parents to forward you messages or ask the team to print any messages specifically for you. Not having a Facebook account just gets “its easy to create” responses rather than “completely understandable, here’s our private matrix server to stay in the loop”.

  • Yeah it is kind of like the “trust, but verify” paradigm. It will likely generate useful code or a very good starting point, but you should always check if it actually does what you expect it to.

You can’t trust them blindly. But They’re very helpful in your day to day tasks.

  • Lets get one thing straight.

This is rarely ever the developer and more a business stakeholder forcing you to push the Friday deploy button.

I’ve had somebody in the business escalating to my team lead, head of development and CIO because i flat out refused to deploy something on Friday at 16h.

So no. This is not the developer making a hard choice. There should be somebody coercing or forcing him to push the deploy button.
