  • Anecdotal, I live in NC and know 3 registered Republicans so far who have cast their votes for Harris, I am “Unaffiliated” and voted for Harris. All of us ended up voting straight Dem on the whole ballot because there is so much crazy on our ballots this year.

The Republicans I know are never Trumpers and just don’t want to give up on the fantasy of what they think the party is supposed to be.

I’m Unaffiliated because in NC you can choose which primary you want to vote when you show up. And sometimes I feel like I can do more good voting in the Republican primary, but other years have voted in the Dem primary.

My point, I’m hoping so hard there are a lot of Rino’s and Unaffiliated early voting Harris, Stein, Jackson.

  • Plus the massacre that started everything was so horrific, it made a clear good guy - bad guy effect in the immediate aftermath. Same as Russia looking like the bad guys invading Ukraine, especially with Zelensky being a charismatic good guy.

Those of us watching from a far, seeing it only on our screens, try to categorize what we see. And decide who we align with.

The problem is that Israel is complicated on a good day, most of us don’t have anywhere close to basic understanding of what’s going on politically there. Then add in the weird religious stuff. (For instance, my dad thinks Israel is ordained by God and therefore the government there is not corrupt, but also thinks Jewish people should convert to Christianity?)

So people feel like they can’t criticize Israel (because God) and also can’t comprehend that bad things are being done by the “good guys” to innocent people. And the innocent people are also of yet another religion that they’ve been taught to fear- so…

And politicians and journalists are also stuck because if they are too critical of Israel, it fuels antisemitism, at least here in the US.

I don’t have a solution, other than for someone smarter than me to figure out how to explain it in simple terms, that can be fed in short segments to the population along with the on the ground reporting. But that would still have to compete with the dissonance in messaging coming from churches.

  • Another reply acting like this is a dumb thing to remind people. Maybe I’m dumb too.

But we used to have a fan that blew air across the bed. Husband loved it, I hated the feeling of air moving across me and would be buried under blankets to avoid it.

After a medical procedure he was sleeping in a recliner for a few weeks while he healed.

I adjusted the fan and ceiling fan so they move air around the whole room, just not directly across the bed. I can sleep without barriers for air tickles, we get the white noise benefit, and the room feela cooler. It works for him too this way when he’s in there and keeps him cool enough (I’ve asked)

Before that I had just assumed you had to be directly in front of a fan to get the benefits, especially when it’s too hot outside for the AC to work effectively.

  • This is the safe space to ask a question you have that you are afraid other people would find stupid.

It’s especially good for things some people feel are common sense, but that others just managed to miss growing up.

Here’s an example. My husband is really smart. But he moved schools a lot over a 3 year period. He managed to completely miss kids being taught 1 is January, 2 is February, etc for dates. He just never learned it.

He knows his birthday in number form. But if he needs, say May 23rd in number form, he’ll look it up or ask me which number May is.

Some people would classify that as a stupid question and be a dick about it. I just answer him. I know he’s tried to learn it, he’s just never sure if he’s right and knows I know.

This sub operates under the good faith that there are no stupid questions, just people who legit missed something along the way.

In life, I would argue, there are stupid questions. But for me, it’s only in situations where someone is clearly just asking questions to make you break, or clearly not listening and asking the same questions over and over without even trying to pay attention, and lastly, weaponized incompetence where people are acting like that because they don’t want to do something and won’t just say no. Basically questions that are exclusively to waste someone else’s time are the only really stupid questions irl imho

But here, you get the benefit of the doubt if you don’t know how to properly brush your teeth, or why May is 5 and July is 7.

I believe the name originated on reddit, and an accurate name would be “thereAreNoStupidQuestionsHere” but the shorter version is what got the brand recognition, but the confusion is understandable

  • Seconding this. 28g of sugar has 108 calories.

Which roughly just over half the amount of calories in 28 g of pecans (193 calories)

    So simple math.

    28g sugar + 28g pecans = 108 calories sugar + 193 calories Gives you 301 calories total

    28g sugar times 2 = 216 calories 28g pecans times 2 = 386 calories

Sugar has significantly less calories per gram than pecans.

When you go by weight, you can really play with the calorie content by substituting calorie dense food (like fats, nuts, oils, avocado) that has a lot of calories per gram with foods that are the same weight but less calories per gram

Carbs like sugar have less calories per gram than fats, and salt has 0 calories, but it adds grams of weight

The pralines are substituting some of the high calorie weight of the pecans for lower calorie sugar and salt. So the weight is the same, but the total ingredients have less calories because of the non-pecan stuff used to top off the weight to get to 28g)

JP’s tweet heavily implied he would react violently or argue with someone to their face if they say “cis” to him. The response implies JP would, in fact, do neither. JP would instead scurry off with maybe a mean glance and then whine for an hour from the safety of his podcast.

The response to JP is making fun of false bravado, toxicity, and whatever the word is for people that take everything as a personal insult - even a simple fact that JP is a cis man.

Granted, some people can deliver obvious facts in a tone that can draw blood. And some facts do cut into insecurities really deep.

But JP, based on his rhetoric should not be hurt or insulted by being cis. He is instead angry about people existing that are trans and threatening violence over a word.

So no, I don’t think this is mocking men having or showing real feelings. It’s mocking the talk-tough toxicity that gets pushed to cover genuine emotions.

  • I have an S7 (yes I know it’s old) I still like it and it works - but - something happens about once or twice a month and it starts hanging up whenever a phone call connects and/or an app will get super laggy.

Anyway, reboot fixes it (so far) and nothing else I’ve tried does.

There’s definitely something with these older phones that is like a slow leak and the simple, easy, lasts for weeks fix is to just take 2 minutes for a full “turn it off and back on again”

Plus the overheating when something gets stuck doing a background thing. Reboot reboot.

I plan to use this phone until it dies, reboot stops fixing things, or needed apps are no longer working/supported.

Slack no longer works/supported, but that one I’m just like “oh, noooo” However I expect ones I actually need to start falling off and I’ll be lucky to get a couple more years of use.

My meandering point, some of us are still using Android phones where reboot helps a lot

  • Ugh, saw the headline and knew it was my state. Our current Dem Gov is term limited. This Robinson asshat is so very embarrassing and scary like a drunk bear with brain damage.

NC is so gerrymandered we are painted red, but I think Gov is based on popular vote so there is still some hope for Stein for next Gov and Jackson for next AG.

Also, Cotham can suck it for getting voted in as a Democrat then switching parties within months in a very very blue district. She ran on protecting abortion rights then voted to ban it after joining the Republican party.

We are potentially very very up a nasty creek without paddles here, even in the blue places.
