Portal and Portal 2 are still 32 bit. Newer mods based on Strata are 64 bit.

As you can see, a good part of the diff (+17048) is actually data or autogenerated stuff. There’s not much review that has to be done, outside of a quick glance to verify those claims. I swear I didn’t put any malware in there :P
Bots are only really a problem on Valve servers. There are many active community servers out there that manage to detect and ban them.
A Free Software License is even more important. There are many great projects out there which you can’t modify etc. because the project isn’t distributed with a license (which means “all rights reserved” in most jurisdictions).

No, there isn’t a plugin system. Things like LSP support are builtin and it uses external LSP server binaries that must be installed on your system.

You can try to use the Flatpak version of Steam. It has some downsides like not creating .desktop files at the right location (by default), but it works on my machine.
