Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is anyone here familiar with coves.social? It's using a modified version of the Photon frontend, displaying Lemmy posts, and claims to use AT Protocol
382·5 days agoI’m the dev here if anyone has any questions, I was waiting till it was in a more finalized state to announce it. Also full transparency since this community is a little more sensitive on it, this project has been agentically built over the course of the last 1-2 years, but I am a SWE in my day job.
I’m sure most people here would be more curious about the ActivityPub -> atproto bridge, I call this Tidepool code is here: https://tangled.org/bretton.dev/tidepool
I’m planning full Lemmy / Piefed / Pylova federation, the goal is not only to be read only here! Ex my comment is from Coves! Communities themselves aren’t being federated yet though.
OP I’d love to know what was spamming you, I can help tackle that we don’t have many users and signups are disabled, but I do have some automated bot posts running but those shouldn’t be federating yet.
UPDATE - Spammer banned on my side 🫡

Fediverse@lemmy.world•some feedback about Lemmy/PieFed from Reddit users
12·6 days agoNot sure if you have tried the For You algorithm on bluesky but it’s really good

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Kagi now has a Fediverse Forums search toggle
5·8 days agoThey have a free tier with 100 searches! It doesn’t sound like a lot but I usually don’t cross it.

Programming@programming.dev•UK Risks Chinese AI Dependency in Public Services
2·10 days agoThe implication that an open weight models are sending data back to China even if it’s on air gapped infrastructure is straight propaganda / Luddite talk.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild to drop a cryptominer
10·11 days agoI was also impacted, you need to remove the payload that got dumped:
Payload: /tmp/.pxb/{curl,wget}, /tmp/.spid
Two processes named khungtaskd / cron
They also stole your admin token so go to the Plex UI and log out of all devices for whichever account has ownership of the instance.
Then you can reclaim ownership and it resets the admin token.
You should likely be fine, I didn’t have any crypto miners on mine, it was just in a docker instance and didn’t have access outside of it. I would be much more worried if it was a direct install on a main PC.
Also install watch tower

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Introducing FediDB Software Comparison, Lemmy vs Mbin vs Piefed
1·13 days agoI mean I love Mbin but it’s kindve the odd child out here. We should really have a section for Threadiverse and for Microblog
FWIW I’ve had multiple DigitalOcean VMs die seemingly out of nowhere.
Never had a problem with OVH nor Hetzner.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
117·14 days agoThese research papers talking about AI leading to cognitive decline seem so asinine when certain people’s productivity has just skyrocketed under AI.
Sure the hand coding capabilities decline, but that’s replaced by thinking around the actually product or architecture.
A huge sect of new Linux users and Selfhosters are talking about how much AI has enabled them yet we’re still bringing up papers on cognitive decline that were written on models from 3-4 years ago when Claude Code didn’t even exist.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds Working On A Hefty Linux Kernel Improvement With Claude Code
1219·19 days agoLove this, opus 5.5 is absolutely nuts at optimization. I was able to use it to get some 10x performance improvements recently.

65·19 days agoIt seems like the tide is finally starting to turn here in terms of LLM usage. Even 4 months ago this thread would be a nightmare lol

1413·19 days agoIt’s a good thing Sam Altman isn’t Anthropic !
I use Linux, VPNs, Firefox, etc. These have all given me access problems with anyone who does custom bot prevention implementations, but I’ve never had a problem with a Cloudfare site.

Programming@programming.dev•Radiologists are 10 years ahead of us in not being replaced by AI
135·20 days agoWorth calling out 3 years ago SWEs were also 10-15 years out from being automated.
Things change very fast nowadays.
Probably the right decision given there’s no way to truly tell what level of AI generation or effort within the project itself with AI has taken place.
I understand the willingness to ban low effort low quality one shot projects, but given most software nowadays incorporating some level of LLMs, I can’t ever see a blanket ban working out anywhere.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they depreciated this at the same time, it’s just less known about so wasn’t included in the announcement.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Colibri chat system (Discord-like thing based on ATProto)
8·27 days agoI think the goal here is to get the general population off Discord and moved into a more open platform.
IRC is great but I can’t see the average user using it unfortunately. Every platform has its own goal, but the ultimate community goal is whatever pushes us to an open social space is a net positive imo!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Colibri chat system (Discord-like thing based on ATProto)
61·27 days agoColibri to my knowledge is basically doing public chats until private spaces are in a better spot then doing private spaces for private groups.
Roomy.space is another one of these who built their own private spaces on atproto and would be worth checking out.
Also Atproto isn’t inherently a bad place for this since it can be a hybrid system of on or off protocol, or using their upcoming permissioned data spaces for private data.
It’s interesting I have the exact opposite perspective with AI in regards to selfhosting.
The customizability is now endless for me, I can do anything, customize anything, problems that are typically 1-2 hours are fixed in <5 minutes.
Don’t want to fiddle w/ a GUI? Shoot off a message and it’s done.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•fediverse.info - A site that introduces the concept of the fediverse, and provides an easy way for new users to find the type of experience they want
3·27 days agoYoure probably looking more for something like the atmosphere (bluesky network) where you have one identity for every app.
But as the other guy said definitely in an ideal world everything communicates with everything cleanly.

Hey 👋, I’m the dev! The goal is not to be read only! In fact our comments are already federating (this one).
The community federation just needs a bit more work across both the bridge and wrapping up some configuration work, but frankly our user count is <10 right now. There’s not really much native activity, it’s mostly some bot accounts I have set up, so you’re not missing much atm
