  • I think the robot problem is more influential to reduction of factory workers due to robots as manufacturing creates more value. For logistics, people love their free shipping and most of the time, companies pay very little to the delivery staff for cost reduction to achieve the free shipping. In this case, robots might actually be more humane for cheaper deliveries than delivery staff in minimum wage. People get their free shipping while no human becomes a sacrifice for that free shipping. If people really want wages and do not want robots to takeover, people should be willing to pay up for delivery fee which will unlikely happen.

I think it’s OK to have specific instances ban certain stuff especially piracy. Those issues concern legal things and risking a general lemmy instance which is fairly large is not worth it. Those things are better put on a dedicated instance that will be tolerant to legal problems. Same rules don’t have to apply to all lemmy instances, each lemmy instance is better with their own set of rules or identities.

I think what matters is funding and donation, not monthly active users. As long as people keep donating, the servers stay up and stay ad-free. Lemmy can cater to a specific paying user base and thrive from there. More active users that do not donate can be detrimental as the revenue does not scale by user base as it is not ad-driven but donation driven. More users can indeed increase potential donations but it’s not a guarantee.

That’s why I like the chinese brands because you need thick cables for their ultra fast charging tech. Although the fast charging are a bit proprietary so you have to find legitimate ones online when they do break.

  • Watched The Bad Guys 2 by Dreamworks. The animation style with the mix of 2D and coloring isn’t that far off from Forgotten Island and it had that “ADHD” vibe. Been liking the recent Dreamworks stuff lately like The Wild Robot and I might watch their next movies on the big screen soon (Forgotten Island is the first DreamWorks movie I watched in the cinema after having only watched the old ones via Cable TV, streaming, and the high seas). Will watch the Bad Guys 1 next week. (I watched Bad Guys 2 first because I am not sure until when it will stay on HBO Max in my country).

It’s not really stupid. Even Linux versioning doesn’t mean anything. Linux 6.0 isn’t a bigger change than Linux 5.19. It actually feels more like a corporate thing that it is easier for them to have a consistent versioning increase and consistent release schedule. Major changes don’t need to be tied to a major change in number because, how do you decide what a major and minor change is? Do you need to group up changes and make the user wait so it becomes a new major version? Google also experienced fragmentation with Android in the past and likely wanted to avoid it. Because if you tie up specific stuff to specific browser versions, some people would want to keep a specific major browser version causing fragmentation. You can just dictate a specific end date of a feature support rather than a browser number to avoid fragmentation.
